Default Fixing 3rd gear grind - what to buy

Need to fix horrible 3rd gear grind. It used to be barely noticeable, but then one weekend I installed a prolite flywheel, jimfab mounts, and a stage 3 clutch and the grind became so narly that I have to double clutch going into 3rd.

So after reading the archives, most people recommend buying a whole gear set to fix the grind because you can't buy just synchros. But you also know that gearspeed sells just the synchros for $100.

So do I only need to buy the synchros or should I buy the whole gear set? And what about those "tranny rebuild kits" that include the two main bearings and seals? What are the odds that I even need to replace the bearings? Those suckers are expensive.

I'm hoping I can just buy the synchros and be done with it.

Regarding getting the gearset or just the synchros, it's one of those "take it apart and check it out" kind of things. It never hurts to replace bearings and seals.

Well it hurts my bank account

I'm just thinking along the lines of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." And so far I haven't noticed any problems with the bearings. I guess I'll just crack the tranny open and see how things look. I can take my time to order what I need because I've got a z6 tranny I can throw in my car when I pull the y8 out.
