For the longest time ive always wanted to turbo my car.. 88 CRX with b18c swap. I finally got some money, started doing some research and putting together a kit for 7-9psi. Ive got the turbo and the manifold so far. I got both parts dirt cheap, brand new but cheap.

Now it seems people are telling me that turbo is too risky, its too unreliable and that my motor wont last more then 40k with the setup.

I budgeted $3000 for the entire setup for parts..

Now i have been looking into a SC kit, and modding it for the EF chassis, it seems to be more reliable, and better for a daily driver (im not looking for a 12 sec rocket). Im leaning towards putting a JSRC SC on the car and selling the parts i have now..

A turbo is going to be alot of custom work, especially for the EF chassis, the SC would be less it seems and is more of a complete kit.

What do you all think? I know turbo is more widely accepted on here but im just trying to get something for my specific needs.

What do new SC kits typically go for?

 

I hear it all depends on the tuner. I've heard of people beating the **** out of their turbo setups and had it with no problems for 2 years.

 

turbo? No experience w/ SC tho

 

turbo's blow motors cuz they make power and are more tempermental if not tuned properly. SC's are safer cuz they dont make power, therefore more "reliable." If you're worried about blowing your motor, just go with the SC, although i'm sure you'll end up selling it and gettng a turbo kit after not being satisfied with the SC.

Quality of parts, management and tuner is all that matters.


also, i'm assuming you're talking about a Jackson racing style supercharger.

I was planning on using all quality stuff, brand new, and not ebay specials..

Tuning is what im worried about, i can put it all together, but i cant find anyone up here who tunes with crome or uberdata.. I cant afford AEM or Hondata

Im looking into a JRSC.. Seeing if i have the firewall clearance (diy mounts), they are hard to locate new, cant seem to find any sponcers on here selling kits :S

And yes i plan to run a new JRSC kit and mod it for EF chassis.

If the sc is going to be the easiest thing to work with ..go with it. I had a buddy who had a supercharged gsr it was a fun car

 

I had a buddy with a JRSC in his EG .... it was koo and sounded real nice..... Until I turbo charged my integra.... and blew it all away hahaha ..... but my car doesent work right now... I would say Turbo and of course a TUNE!!!!

 

I have the vortech 10psi kit with powercooler in my 88 crx and I would highly recommend it over the JRSC. Although, it may retail for a bit more its definately worth it im my opinion. If the vortech kit is out of your price range turbocharging it might be a better alternative.

I'm so tired of this question. Let me fill you in:

-I used to have a JRSC but it was gay as hell so I switched to a turbo setup.
-The JRSC was way, way harder to install compared to the turbo.
-Neither was more reliable.
-As stated above, you hear about turbo motors blowing more often because they make more power. You don't hear about JRSC motors blowing because they make horribly gay hp numbers; you don't blow a motor on 200hp unless you really screw up.

Get a turbo now or you will end up like me; depressed, slow, and eventually broke after you sell the JRSC and buy a turbo.
