I guess my answer sucked. I'd love to be a photographer for motorcycle racing someday; that and freelance ****.

I worked at a dealer for a short time after working a corporate type job. The novelty wore out quickly and I would rather be riding than watching everyone else ride. The motorcyle industry has small profit margins, so pay isn't that great. Unless I was a professional mechanic and motorcycles were my machine of choice, then I would keep motorcycles as a hobby.
For me motorcycles are a great way to get away from work.
Everyone at my shop joked that people in the industry ride less than our customers, ie no time off "in season".

Yeah, I'd rather be riding.
Been down that road before, though. When I raced bicycles I worked in a couple bike shops, it sucked. It didn't suck because working in bicycle shops inherently sucks, it sucked because I made something that I did for fun my job. Part of the fun of this stuff, to me, is that I don't HAVE to do it. If I wake up one morning and it's raining, I don't have to put on rain gear to get to work - I can get in my car. If I worked at a motorcycle shop, or something with motorcycles, whatever, I'd have to get up and deal with **** every day.... be responsible for WORK. In my experience that can really ruin stuff.
If you don't want to do it, but you have to, the fun gets sapped up pretty quickly.

I work on a busy street where a lot of bikes ride down to head to the beach.
I hate sitting at my desk and hearing a bike every 3 minutes. I hate it when I'm talking to a customer and hear a bike go by. I lose my concentration and ask, "What was I saying?"
I don't wish to work in the bike industry tho. There's no jobs unless you're over qualified. My cousin in law came out of motorcycle mechanic school and couldn't find a job. Some places that did offer jobs were offering **** for pay.
Maybe in the racing end of it, like being at all the races would be nice. Wouldn't want to be a umbrella girl or anything. Something in the pit would be nice, if not on a bike

I was very interested in getting a job at a local shop for the benefits of discounts, more motorcycle experience. . . .ETC. The problem is not many are looking for new people and the pay is'nt great. I have a friend that works for a shop in Miami (moto connection) he races on the track and he is totally 100% sponsered!
I keep wondering to myself if I should change majors because right now I am in Aerospace Engineering while I keep thinking I should move to Automotive. All of my advisors keep telling me to stick with Aerospace because I will have the high velocity dynamics rather than only the slow speed of cars and such. Also they said because of this skill I will acquire then I could be used for design of motorcycles and cars.
Basically I keep wondering if when I am out of college if I should go into the R&D of a major company or just keep a nice Aero job and ride and race on weekends?
I guess I will have to tell you in 2 more years when I get out.

stay where you are; there is far more demand and money in the aerospace sector

my neighbor across the street has probably what most of us consider a dream job when it comes to getting to ride... He is the editor for http://www.motorcycleusa.com and has it his house at least 5 bikes at a time that he gets to test out... He had ALL the 05 600's over there not too long ago and right now the new GSRX 1k. He get flown all around the world ( spain, italy etc..) to test and ride at the tracks out there...
