Key out of ignition, radio stays on ??????????
My buddies car has a weird problem.
When he shuts off teh car, and remove the key the radio stays on playing for about 10-15 seconds and then shuts off.
Anyone know what the problem could be??
car is a 99 civic SI

Probably the battery, but i dunno why thats a problem? My car has something wierd like that too, the radio goes crazy when i roll up or down my windows. Automatic.
my radio stays on when i leave a high powered light or device plugged into my lighter adapter. it actually pulls excessive power from the accessory plugged in to it. but this stays on even when i open the door so i don't know.
a lot of cars have the feature (like the new F150) that the windows and radio works until you open the door the first time after turning the ignition off. it's a good idea, but i've never heard of it on a civic.

Sounds to me like thats a factory default. Have him open the door imedietly after turning the car off and see what happens, if it goes off when he does that its a factory thing. If not the radio is still getting power for the 10-15 seconds. Some possible things could be if hes had a turbo timer installed, They give power to the car after you shut it down to let the engine cool, granted they should do so for more then 10-15 seconds, being the stock radio i dont know what else to tell you even the aftermarkets shouldent stay on after the key is turned off, the ones that do still get power from a relay untill the door is opened ext. the radio dosent do that. I guess the easiest way to tell if its the radio or the car is to pull the radio and get yourself a test light or an ohm meter, Test the turn on lead (Ussualy RED) check that to see if its getting power after the car is turned off, if it is its the car wiring somehow whether is be a factory option to do so or not. If not then the radio is perhaps going bad (Bad relay [I forget what there called in a radio there not traditional relays there called something else]). Ill check back on this topic later......
no trubo timer thats for sure, im gonna try swapping decks and see if that helps. also i tried oppenig the door right away and that doesnt solve it.
