91 crx or 95 civic hatch
you have to tell us what trim they are. 95 cx is near 2080 i think. 91 crx SI is 2130.
cheapest route for a swap would be the crx. 1st gen b16's go for a little over a grand. but you'd have to get a mount kit, axles(most jdm given axles are crap), shift linkage, which can run you 4-500.
cheapest hydro swap would be ls/b16 for the 95 hatch. they run 2200, but again, you'd have to get mounts, axles. you can use your stock shift linkage.
this is how i would look at the two cars, other than the eye appeal. i love both cars, i've owned both.

i do not agree to that above statement, i have owned the 2 and still own 2 rexs. why? i love the crx but to be honest i would spend less money and lessproblem with an EG.
EF
To get a GOOD unmolested un rusted CRX, b16, GOOD CABLE TRANS that doesnt grind, $400 mounts, $150 shift linkage, $300 on some DECENT axles, wiring for dpfi if not si/hf, conversion for obd1, $250-400 traction bars for aftermarket header or 3" turbo downpipe. your better off starting out with a 92-95 hatch, honestly if the eg hatcha dn crx are the same price get the eg.
EG Hatch
$3500 and get a EG hatch and swap in a SIRII b16 w/ i/h/e/pump/fpr, chip ecu with uberdata tuned. and run low 14s all day. and then i can find 10x more exterior/interior jdm, edm, usdm, aftermarket goodness and parts for it. i can even later down the road swap in a K20 without having to worry about clearance in engine bay or ground like my EF.
**you can use stock mounts on the 92+ civics with $35 poly inserts. it would be cheaper to get the SIR2 with 170hp and hydro trans which is easier and cheaper to find than cable and a 92/93 cx hatch thats already OBD1 from a lady or man for just as cheap or cheaper than a crx since everyone who owns a 88-91 civic/crx thinks its holds value like a ferrarii.

It depends on what trim the HB and the CRX are. The 1991 SI weighs in at a portly (for the size) 2174 pounds. So if the CRX is a 1991 SI, than ANY 1995 HB that is NOT an SI is going to be lighter. The 1991 CRX DX weighs about the same as the 1995 DX HB. The 1991 CRX HF is lighter than ANY 1995 HB. But it's not lighter than the 1995 CX or HX by much. Bottom line: if it was between a 1991 CRX and 1995 HB, I would take the 1995 HB. Iy you REALLY want a light car, go for a 1988 CRX HF, 1988 CRX DX, or 1989 CRX HF.
