b16crx DX Tach Floats at 5800 rpms?
Well my tach is pissing me off cause it floats at 5800 rpms. i have a new cap rotor and wires. After searching some people said that it might be the ignitor going bad.
but my car works fine, the problem started really small but it just get worst(accurate wise). i dont want to add a RICE TACH i checked all connections and grounds are good. If i cant fix it im gonna have to get a RICE TACH. Is there anything else to do like take the cluster appart and check it.?

Sounds like either the ignitor is shot or the wires on it are loose. Take a pair of pliers and squeeze the terminals on the ignitor to insure that the wires are making a good conncetion.
Mine did the same thing. It was also off by about 2000rpm after awhile. Honestly my mechanic told me the tach sucks. I went got another and it worked fine.

I made a thread on this awhile back, not too long. I was told the same thing, change your ignitor and check your alternator. My question is this though, which ignitor units will work on an OBD-0 B16? I have a ricer tach (3 and a quarter inches or something) and it reads more accurate than my stock tach but they still both jump under heavy accelleration, so simply changing the tach probably won't fix your problem.

I swaped ignitors today from an LS Dist OBD-0. and i still have the same problem.
Maybe me tach on the cluster really is fucked up. One more thing to do that i was thinking was that if i can re-ROute the blue wire from the dist with fresh new wire?
This is really pissin me off. i guess im gonna have to get a rice tach!
Or i can change the coil. have new rotor cap wires replaced the ignitor, the only thing that could be would be the coil.

Try, using the LS distributor. I had a tach problem and it turned out to be the distributor. Sometimes the pick-up goes bad. It's bear to figure out.
