Wow. How in the world did you get a deal like that? That's $400 less than I sold my SV for.

Yeah, I mean heaven forbid someone's goal isn't to land themselves on a 'busa eventually.

We've already covered the reason why he went from a litre to a 600, but thanks for using my question as an opportunity to make sure we're all aware of Mr. Hammond's "it's about the rider, not the bike" philosophy.

Actually I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of my "everyone's goal is to not own the biggest most powerful bike on the planet" philosophy. I mean heaven forbid someone step up to a modern day litre bike and realize how absolutely punishing they are on track, verses beating the absolute snot out of a 600cc bike and feeling 100% in control while thinking to yourself, damn I wonder how many more MPH's I can carry up the S's at VIR vs Holy **** how am I going to keep the front wheel on the ground going up the S's at VIR. Damn the rider vs bike thing.
But, since you were so close....

That's not just any cookie either. THAT my friend is a snicker doodle. Cherish it.

Its getting old. When all is said and done the squids will still be squids well still be here. Let people get what they want. The educated and sensible will make educated and sensible decisions. Nothing you say is going to sway anyone elses decision.

x2, thanks man...
My question didn't even reflect my own personal standards on horsepower...I drive an ITR for f***'s sake.
But, given that the thread creator got his bike "for the summer," and has owned a buttload of bikes, presumably riding them during the summer until he gets sick of them, I wondered why such an obviously fickle person would buy a 600 after owning a 1000.

Yeah, well, don't give yourself an ulcer from handing out lessons to the many unenlightened squids in the forum.
PS - I still haven't taken the MSF. Better take that cookie back.

I don't consider myself one handing out lectures in every new for the day "what bike to get for beginning rider". I simply point them to the appropriate thread at the top of this forum, or I keep my mouth shut. I have my own opinions and this topic gets brought up enough to where I think everyone knows everyones opinions on the most covered topics.
However I think both you guys missed the boat on this one.
You don't think I'm well aware people are going to do what they want? You think I have no idea that when people come on here and ask what bike they want, they really just want people to agree with them and if they don't and get flamed, they are still going to get whatever bike they had their minds set on in the first place.
Ross asked the guy why would you get a 600 after owning a litre bike? That makes no sense. Well all I was saying is I know about a dozen guys who thought it made perfect sense. Maybe not for showoff purposes or to stick out your chest, suck in your gut and say take a look at this baby, or ***** out midnight runs, or drag racing.
As I said I know plenty of people that have owned 600's and did track days, stepped up to 750's and 1000's and have sold them and went back to 600's simply because of what I said earlier. I honestly don't think their is a person on this earth that can ride a new litre bike to it's 100% fullest potential on track. They are just that F'ing powerful.
Oh well. What the hell do I know? Not much, I'll tell you that.

...which is what most dudes buy them for anyway. That's why I was in disbelief that anyone would actually "downgrade."

Good to hear he was right about your motives.
For the record, I don't consider it to be a downgrade either. Bikes are just like cars - it's about the whole experience, not just one thing. I'm sure Big Pete's VFR 400 is a lot more fun than my 10-second R6, etc etc.
