Friends' horn cuts in and out.
A friend of mine has the 2005 GSX-R 1K (
) and his horn just periodically decides to quit working.
Any idea where we should look? Every time he takes it to the dealer, it works again.

I have seen horns that will "stick" when you try hitting them at idle. Usually a situation where the horn is partly stuck, and the bikes electrical system isnt providing quite enough voltage to buzz it. next time it stops working, tell him to try revving the bike up a few grand and trying it again.
Other than that, could be as simple as the button itself not making a good connection.

Hitting the button, lol.
When we're out on the road, it works intermittently. We'll be at a stoplight, beeping and revving like ********, and his horn will just cut out. Next time we're stopped, it will work. Really strange.

ohhhhh....that just means its overheating. let it cool off. and change the horn fluid like i said.

Well, overheating isn't an easy answer. The horn cuts out when the bike is cold too.
We thought it was just a problem with the wires and circuits inside the horn being cold, and figured once the bike warmed up, the problem would go away. But it's always there, albeit at random times.
I'll look into changing the horn fluid.

ROFL! n00b!
Does it happen when the bike if not running? It sounds like there is a loose wire and the vibration of the bike is jostling it. I know you said you checked all the wiring but electrical systems are so finicky there might be something you can't really see with the naked eye.

lol...does the horn fluid/oil just not exist? Doesn't seem like a horn would need to be lubricated, but ya never know.

All you're going to see is the collection of beautiful women I put on the back.
Nice horn oil joke, falcon...lol. Me = 0wnd...I replied without actually considering the ridiculousness of what you had said.
In all seriousness, there's no rhyme or reason to his horn working or not working. Temp, engine revs etc don't hold any hints. He's no more technically inclined than I am, however...so I don't know how this is going to get fixed.

its definintely an electrical connection that is intermittent. the only constant in the problem is the engine vibration is probably causing it. it might be a loose connection or maybe in the horn itself.
usually things like this are fixed by just disconnecting and reconnecting everything assoicated with the horn from the button to the horn itself until you find what is causing it.
now, about that blinker fluid...

LOL, eat a D***. And when you're done, you can pass it over to Project F4
