Plus 1/2 tire upgrade report
If anyone is wondering about going up from their 14" wheel size from the stock (as on my '98 HX)
185/65 14 to a
195/60 14...
DO IT. There isn't much in a more perf-oriented tire in the stock size, so I tried some Bridgestone RE950's to catch the $75 rebate. AND to get rid of the mis-matched Les Schwab junk that was on there when I bought the car.
Transformation time- the car is like 100% better steering response, sticking, less road noise, as a smoother ride. They actually have a pretty stiff sidewall compared to some other choices. Overall diameter is damn close, so mileage/speedo are not impacted that much...
Why not change wheels, you ask? Well, the HX wheels are actually pretty nice, I think, and THEY ONLY WEIGHT IN AT 11 POUNDS! Enkei made 'em good, eh.
Anyway, it works just fine, and I have more tire on the road due to the profile.
