Default **NEW INFO** SOHC ZC motor, ZC Tranny, 86-89 Teg Half Shaft, how to do the axles?

**LOOK BELOW**

I can't find a ZC half shaft locally, so I'm using the 86-89 integra one as per this:

I found this picture in the search.

Now, I read people using the 90-91 integra axles, and others using 2 passenger side civic axles and putting the inner cup thing from the integra on the civic axles.

Which one would be better to do?

I'm going to buy the whole teg axles either way, I rather do what's best.

Jay

If 90-93 INTEGRA axles if you don't know how to take the axle apart and put it back together.

I went the other way becuase the trans i got already had the joints in there (cut off) and I had a couple of axles laying around.
Went to an axle rebuilding joint and BOOM new CVs for dirt cheap!!!

So the 1st gen intermediate shaft works with the 90'93 axles? Just like the DOHC ZC int shaft?

What is involved with using the two Civic axles? What do you have to do?

If i can find some damn axles, I will post a how-to.

But Geez, all I can find are reman axles that are $150 and I don't have anything to give back for a core.

If I have to, I'm going to buy some axles from the auto parts store, take the cup/spline part off and replace it with the civic ones, do up the boot with a new clamp and return them.

I know this would be bad, because someone else down the road will be screwed, but this is a PITA!

Ok, so i got the 86-89 integra half shaft, I then went to the local parts store and bought some axles, one of them being a 89 integra left side axle meaning, the side for the intermediate shaft.

I put the axle in the intermediate shaft all the way in, and if I hold the cup part on the axle, I can turn the intermediate shaft, sort of like if the grooves weren't working or like it was sliding off. Imagine if this was in the car? if I can do this by hand...certainly with the car on the ground the splines would just strip.

So what the hell??!?!?!? Is this normal?

I just called hmotorsonline.com and they have a ZC int. shaft but only ship UPS which takes 5-7 business days.

**EDIT**

this guy on ebay sells the axle cups to use in the ZC tranny, they are much different then what I have.

ZC cups from ebay site:

Here is what I have at home from left to right:

90 integra right axle, 89 integra left axle, 90 civic right axle, 90 civic right axle, 90 civic left axle

As you can tell, all the USDM ones, even the integra ones only have splines half way through compared to what the guy sells on ebay.

This is damn confusing.

Just do everything right the first time. Hmotors has zc halfshafts for 75 dollars. and Raxles axles makes zc specific axles. They are exactly the right size you need...as opposed to the integra axles which are a little longer and cause bogging while heavy acceleration. I have a zc tranny and I used the zc shaft and raxle axles.....I gotta tell you that i feel the wheels gripping very nicely.

i've always read that the only intermediate shaft that would work with the ZC tranny was the ZC one. make sure you keep us updated on whether or not this works out for you

Someone told me that you Don't use the 88-89 integra intermediate shaft, you Use the 4 wheel drive wagon civic's intermediate shaft on the zc tranny for it to work. Also im gonna call hmotors and ask what the hell on the intermmediate shaft?. If im buying the motor from them With the transmission shouldn't i automatically Get the intermediate shaft With the tranny?.

I'll probably return the intermediate shaft and order the ZC one from hmotors and the axles from Raxles.

Or return the tranny and try to find a Si tranny.

I pulled a pair of 90-93 Integ axles from the Junkyard.
One is fully splined, the other isn't.
This IS CONFUSING ME.

it's hard to verify where exactly the EBAY dude got those inner joints.
The SOHC ZC trans I got (4.437 FD ZXi) had only ONE Inner joint and that was fully splined. The other side had a plug
I guess I'll pop it in the other side to see if it fits....

ok....as far as the intermediate shaft goes.

There are only 2 options.

Either you buy a real zc intermediate shaft (the have 2 versions, auto and manual, make sure you get the right one. they will be stamped with eithe "AT" or "M_")
Or you can buy the civic 4wd wagon intermediate shaft. Those are the only two that will work.

Yes...it may be possible to make an integra one fit....but that isnt too safe.

axles: 90-93? integra axles fit fine....no modification needed. There is a dust boot that should be removed...but that's it.
