Default Novice Race Report - 5/7/05 Portland

Well, what can I say, what a hoot. I had an absolute blast!

Readers Digest Version...

The car ran well, seat time & experience are needed, the ICSCC novice program works very well, and I can't wait till the next one.

What did I learn....

1) I need quite a bit more fuel than 1/2 tank for a 30 minute run. DOH!
2) You are never as prepared as you would like to be.
3) I need to get the seat lower, as low as possible, in the car.
4) I would like stiffer springs in the car.

Pictures and video will be up tonight...

Special thanks to...

Terri - My Wife
Johng - for the support, with out you I wouldn't be doing this
Porter Construction and Long Painting for making this possible
Greg - for taking the time out of your day to come root me on
Rick/Steve - for all the advise and mentoring

Nash - who is ready for the next one @ Pacific Raceways on 5/21.

Came out looking for you on Sunday, but John said you'd headed home to be a good husband for that excellent wife of yours - glad to hear she's doing so good. And glad to hear that you had a good time - and can't wait to race again.

Scott, who definitely hears you on needing stiffer springs...I just kant get my car stiff enough either...

Yo, careful there. Like I said before, I don't think I want that kind of responsibility But as long as you're having a good time, that's all that matters.

Our usual Honda Camp was a little thin this weekend. All the Canadian guys stayed home, and just about everyone else besides Rick and myself stayed home.

Since Nash wasn't around Sunday, here's a little recap;

Rick (turfer) qualified on pole and won both the Group 2 and Group 5 races overall, and (from what I understand) set new ITA and EP track records. He and Steve have the CRX working well and he was flying.

I qualified better Sunday and moved up a few spots (3rd of 6). Got a bad start, but held on to the 3rd spot for the race and was able to keep Skip behind me with him attached to my rear bumper for the last two laps.

Get the pics posted!

Awesome pics! John, it looks like you are really starting to "drive" your car.

Would this be a picture of Rick on pole? In front of all the ITS cars?

Interesting, same thing happened to me, people were wondering why I was walking in the paddock long before my race was over. PIR requires a little more fuel in the tank compared to PR.

Hopefully I'll be on track with you on the 21st.

Great job Nash. You looked good from the inside of T6... John has a VHS tape I copied from my shitty attempt at filming (take a couple dramamine before you watch it).

I'll have the car out for the June 4,5 weekend. I'm looking forward to finishing 3/4 of a lap behind Rick

anyone want to adopt a road racer from the NW? Rick is generally well groomed, hard working, and can drive a race car like no other....We just can't keep him here in the NW, he makes us all look....well....slow.

Not to hijack the thread, but since Nash already posted video, here's the Group 2 race start and first two laps from my car. Nothing too exciting other than a poor start because I couldn't see the start/finish stand.

First two laps @ approx. 30 megs

enjoy.

Nash, that is some really good looking video. Please tell me which camera you used. I'm ready for a new one. Oh, and nice start, too. Why is the car in SPU instead of H1? Too much aftermarket stuff?

I use a bullet camera from http://www.helmetcamera.com mounted on one of the cool cage mounts from http://www.chasecam.com. This is tied to my miniDV camera that is held in a pelican box on the floor board in the passenger foot well. The box is available at http://www.all-pelican-cases-4-less.com.

I run with ICSCC, and therefore SPU, if we had a HC here in the NW it would be a H1 car.
