Default Debating upgrade path

Since I got my Type R the plan was to turbo it and have some fun. I have about $3000 to play with, and I think I can do a nice turbo setup for that price, but it leaves me little room for error.

Turbo would be
T3/T4 (50 trim/stage 3/.63 a/r)
Blox Manifold
Garret Intercooler
HKS BOV
RC 750cc injectors
Neptune/p28/adapter
CF dual friction Clutch
etc..

According to my spreadsheet, everything comes out to $2750 installed/tuned. The goal is only 250-260hp, so I think that should be easily doable and perfectly safe.

Option two is to buy some nice wheels, maybe some nice coilovers, and call it a day. Figure $1500-1600 on wheels, $800-1200 on coilovers, so that comes out to about the same, just I don't think the fun factor is there.

Ugh, what to do?

Take that money and use it for gas, food and maintenance to get to EXPO. Pretty simple choice, really.

I'd get some good rubber and wheels and track the h3ll out of it.

Fun factor x 10000000

i'm running same powerband you're looking for, stock clutch disk/bearing but slightly more powerfull pressure plate. other differences are .48 a/r turbo, but i don't think .63 a/r will be that much different, and 550's injectors..

things i dont see on your list that are needed for turbo setup are:

high flow intank fuel pump
air filter with elbow
wastegate, possibly wastegate elbow
downpipe
dumptube,
exhaust - can't use stock for that application,
oil pressure gauge,
boost gauge,
a/f gauge - good to have, it gives general idea of whats goign on
slim radiator fan
oil return/send line
intercooler piping/clamps
high temp wrap for a/c line you can also use it to wrap piping,
catch can, check valve (woud depend on your setup).

some more things i'm running: adj f.p.r., EBC - not needed but good to have

now... also add money for bottom end rebuild, cause you're likely to blow your engine at some point.

Go to Thialand and blow it all on hookers and cheap alcohol. Kidding....kidding.

Plan A and B are both very good choices. It simply comes down to what YOU want to do with your car. Just going to go on spirited drives? Plan A. Going to do a few HPDE's and track events? Plan B. Both plans can easily be flipped for either reason.

Like the guy mentioned above, your missing quite a few items from your turbo list. If you can do it for 3K your a smart shopper. I think your turbo may be a little bit of an over kill for the hp that your seeking. Check out the T3/T4E hehehe...or was it the T3/T4B....with a smaller A/R. Stage 3 wheel may be over kill, but will give you some room to grow when you get hooked on boost like hookers on crack.

I work for a turbo company, and have full access to a full fab/tig setup. I can run whatever turbo I want, we are a RC dealer so injectors are at cost, Centerforce clutch at cost, garret or whatever fmic for near nothing, tial/turbonetics, blah blah. Honestly my prices are worst case deals, as I have stuff like oil lines budgeted at $100, and $200 on a downpipe when it probably won't cost more than $20-40 in mandrel bends to make.

I'm coming from a 500awhp DSM, and the R just doesn't do it for me when I floor it. HPDEs are fun, done a few in a GSR and my old talon, but they are few and far between, even though I'm not really looking.

Everyone is bugging me to get wheels because its currently rolling on some 16x7 Rota slipstreams, and I guess thats a mortal sin on a type R. I'm either going to pick up some stock rims, or I want to get some bronze rota c10s.

The only thing that is keeping me wary about turbo is reliability. Its my only car, a daily driver, and I need it to get to work. Professionally tuned, on 6-7psi, with proper fuel setup, making 250-260fwhp I don't see why the stock motor couldn't go for a long long time.

Car already has a koyo alum radiator and fans in it, 4-1 JDM header, and CAI. Nice stereo, nice alarm, lojack, etc etc etc.

Expo will never happen. Live across the country, work full time, and have no urge to drive across the country.
