Camber plates with spherical bearings, rattling..
just wondering. i have an 86 Civic with camber plates from OPM. they rattle horribly. i almost failed tech inspection at the autocross on saturday. is this normal for spherical bearings? (i think the tech inspector was new..)

Pretty normal, yes. They are an expendable part (think brake pads) which need replacing when worn. I keep a spare of every one that's used on my car and keep them in my track box.
The newer sphericals with Kevlar bearing races are supposed to last a bit longer. I haven't tried them.

How old are they? They might be worn out.
Is there alot of slop?
Remember that the purpose of sperical bearings is to eliminate the slop of rubber bushings. That process also eliminates the noise and vibration damping of rubber bushings.

thanks guys. i didn't really think of them as a "wear" item..
as for where to find them, i've got this post on another board and they said look for "roundy-round" racing shops near you. they normally carry them.. so i think i may have found a local shop that carries them.
btw, they are almost 2 years old and the car is a daily...

I bet they are very worn out after 2 years of daily driving.

I was the manufacture of the OPM camber plates. They were not made for street use, but that hasn't stop most people. I have no doubt that after 2 years on the street, that they would rattle. It is a very easy bearing to get at most race shops and industrial supply houses. I think you should have a COM-9 bearing. You can get a lined bearing if you would like, but for a bearing that is loaded axially (sp), it won't last any longer. It will just be a little quieter to begin, but I don't think any body has ever heard one in a "race" car. If you like I would be happy to send you a couple.

they were purchased maybe 3-4 years ago. i know they really weren't meant for street, but eh, what ya gonna do? heheheee. i guess i need to replace them every year atleast.. i'll PM ya about getting replacements..

do you have the specially modified (shortened and revalved) koni shocks?
the camber plates from opm have a 9/16" ID and the shocks have a 12mm OD shaft.

I'm in the same situation as outlined above. I've been street driving and racing with these camber plats for about 5 years now. The bearings needed to be replaced about 4 years ago......and then they stopped rattling about 3 years ago and ever since. Yeah I know, they should be replaced ASAP......
Is there any chance that you remember what the dimensions are for the bearing or even a part number?? I have the shorted and re-velved Koni's as well. I believe Koni gave me an insert so the shortened shocks were compatible with the original OPM bearing.
Thanks.

my bearings are 1/2inch inner diameter, and 1 inch outer diameter... and i still need some. although i think i was sent the com 9's, and they don't work.
