Default F4I ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER

Recently I bought a used 2002 cbr f4i. A few days ago I noticed that the engine serial number has been altered. Do all F4I engines start with PC35E? Can someone tell me what I got myself into?

As long as the title is clean you prolly dont have anything to worry about.

Maybe the numeric half of the vin is the actual unit # as produced off the assembly line.

Honestly since the late 70's early 80's most states have been titling bikes from the vin on the frame and not the engine. I have a 98 motor in an older frame and I have never been asked for proof that the engine is not stolen. (In which yes i do have.)

In wisconsin they used to title bikes by the vin on the engine. My dad has a 72 T250J suzuki which he tried to title in florida. They looked at the frame vin and of course it is not the one on the bike. He had to get the bike retitled in wisconsin via the frame sn before he could get it titled here in florida. Wisconsin didnt want to do it, but since he was the original owner and he had the receipt from when he bought it and registered it originally they finally let in.

Try contacting your local honda dealer. I believe they track the vins for recall purposes so you may find out a little more info there.

Also on wrecked bikes/race bikes it is not uncommon to swap an engine for a damaged one. Especially with how easy they are to find on ebay.
