Default shift linkage?

I have a 99 civic with hyd tranny, a lot of times when im driving, especially when im trying to go into second gear, it just doesn't want to go in. Even when im above second gear and im slowing down to make a turn sometimes i have to try several times to get it to go in gear. Is it my shift linkage or maybe something else?

Could be lots of things. First off, how many miles are on the clutch? It could also be siezed or bad bushings in the shift linkage, or indicate a bigger problem with the tranny.

What engine/tranny is it and how many miles?

its a 99 d16y8, the clutch is pretty new, around 5k miles or so. as for the tranny i was having problems with my old one, i believe one of the bearings went out in it. my buddy got me another tranny for cheap so we did the swap. but besides all that, even b4 my clutch and tranny replacement i recall having these problems. thanks for whatever help you might be able to give me.

If you have badly worn bushings in the shift linkage, it could cause you shifting problems. I suggest you check them.

the same thing happened to me also, the bolt for the linkage arm that attached to the car some how unloosened itself and it was stuck on the rubber dust boot for the shift linkage to the tranny preventing from going into 2nd and i could somtimes feel it for 4th too so check that out if you havnt already found the problem
