nys emission testing
According to NYS emission laws you must now have no CEL, or codes and obd-II set up in your car. If you have a OBD-II b18 swap, which i plan on having summer time with all sensors correctly hooked up there should be no problem correct? I witnessed on other forums that you must have original motor and ecu in car...can anyone correct or add their .02 on this for me??
there not gonna check your motor or ecu. All they do is plug in the computer into you diagnostic port and check for the trouble codes and readiness monitors. They can careless of the motor or ecu. Only thing they'll check under the hood is the evap system to make sure all the vacuum lines are hooked up. So when you do the swap make sure every hose and sensor is visible and routed correctly. They're also gonna check your check engine light, so when they put your key in their gonna check to see it come on and off. So you can't remove the bulb. And on the 96-00 you can have 2 not ready monitors, and still pass, but 2001 and newer they can only have one not ready monitor. I talked to a mechanic and all this info is 100% correct. He knows about my swap and so does honda when it was there for 3 days trying to figure out my check engine code. So neither the mechanic nor the dealership care about my JDM 2nd gen b16a motor in my 98 civic. So visual is not a problem to us. Most mechanics won't even notice the different motor. So bottom line is make sure your light is not on and don't remove the battery 3 days before the inspection, make sure all the monitors get set. My inspection is this month!!!!
