Default Got a short, need help

Just realized after doing my auto to manual swap that my parking lights and cluster lights are out. Both are on the same 10 amp fuse so I replaced it. But when I turn the switch on to turn the parking lights on, they come on dim for about a second and then the fuse snaps.

I cant seem to find my haynes manual anywhere, wondering if anyone can tell me a good place to start troubleshooting.

Heres what i did that your not supposed to do. My dash lights went out. When those go out, your tail lights go out also. So instead of the 10 amp, i put in a 20 amp. And i never had a problem since. I don't know what the hell but try it. Also, did you pull a wire loose when you were under your steering wheel changing out the pedals. One more thing, i want to change out my tranny for a 5 speed to, was it hard and is there anything I should know.

I just replied to a thread like this two seconds ago. Don't listen to the n00b above because if your wires are grounding out you'll melt stuff with bigger fuses. Horrible advice, and potentially costly. Use a volt meter to test if that circuit is grounding out. You can do it from the fuse box, and be sure to have the light switch on when you do the test. If there's continuity with ground then you need to find and fix it or replace the whole wire. It could be a pain in the ***, I would start looking around where you pulled the tranny off. My guess is that you tugged on some wires a little too hard.

LOLOL... classic... you are truly an idiot. Do you even know what fuses are for???

As whitedsm said a multimeter is ur best friend from now on. Switch it to continuity and search for + wire that is continous with -... thats ur short.

My haynes manual actually says its a 15 amp fuse for the circuit and not a 10. I was really close to putting a 15 in when I came to my senses. :-)

Anyways, I was able to find the short..... After re-checking everything I found the short in the oddest of places. The last owner had equiped the hatch with trailer wiring to it could be pulled. I Clipped this cable off to make room for my clutch cable and forgot about it.

I must of kicked or bumbed the cable cause the power and ground for the rear tail lights got shorted togehter. So all in all it was an easy fix.

But back to that earlier post, if I had put a 20 amp fuse in, I probably would of melted or trashed my cluster.
