Clutch decision: ACT, Exedy, Clutchmaster, RPS, SPEC
I am in the market for a new clutch. I am currently building a turbo H23/VTEC. The car will be a daily driver and might see the track once a month...if lucky. I want something that I can drive in rush hour traffic as well as hold power when I crank up the boost. So I don't want an "on and off switch". I want to run about 11-12 psi on stage 1 and 15 on stage 2 with my Turbo XS DSBS. I'm estimating at least 350HP at 15 psi. The following clutches are the ones I am debating on. I currently have an ACT HA3-HDSS (heavy duty plate and street disc).
1. Exedy Stage II Thick Disc Cerametallic. It has a sprung 3-puck disc. 75% increase over stock.
2. Clutchmasters Stage IV (FX-400), 6-puck sprung disc. 170% holding capacity over stock(whatever that means) or Stage III. street disc. 110% increase
3. ACT HC3-HDR4 (Heavy Duty Plate and 6-puck UNsprung disc). Holds 356ft-lbs
4. RPS Max with street disc, 48% clampling increase, supposedly hold 440ft-lbs
5 SPEC Clutch Kit w/ ceramic 6-puck sprung disc, supposedly holds 360ft-lbs
Does anyone have experience with two or more of these clutches? I've never heard of the last two, so I'm the most skeptical about them. I could use some recommendations. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

I have a 300whp turbo teg and am also looking for a new clutch. I have the exedy thin cerametallic and my only complaint is that it only lasted a year with 4 track days with slicks. I now wish I would have gotten the thick disc. I have been doing some research and found that exedy has a very weak pressure plate with only 1560 clamping pounds. Same pressure plate as their stage 1. So I don't think I am going to go with Exedy again for this reason. For a comparison ACT pp are 2100, 2500 and 2900 clamping lbs which are stronger than most on the market. I like the clutchmaster stage 4 but the price is high. Clutchnet.com looks pretty good with their 6 puck sprung but Rocket's post here on Honda-tech said their disc will eat through your flywheel. At the moment I like eclutchmaster.com stage 2, thier pp is 1900 which is still weaker than any ACT but a lot stronger than the Exedy I have now. And their clutch disc is a six puck sprung with a new material called MIBA which is suppost to grip like cerametallic but engage smoother and wear less on you flywheel. Hope some of this info helps.

Did you break the Exedy clutch in properly? I was running the same clutch on my drag crx for over a year and never a problem, the clutch also had lots of life left on it when I changed setups..

170% holding capacity over stock means that the stage 4 will hold stock hp + (1.7*stock hp), for example if the stock hp rating is 150, then the FX400 wil hold: 150+(1.7*150) = 150+(255) = 405HP.
Hope this clears things up a little for you, let me know if you have any other questions..
Thanks

Cool. So where can I get good deals on the Stage IV. I am leaning more towards that side.

Yeah, but I'm looking for a deal... and RACEENG doesn't seem to have it. Aren't there any Clutchmaster dealers out there!?!?
