I am gettin a CRX and i was told by my friend nto get an integra motor and put a b16 or b18 header on the integra block. Is this a good idea not sure i am just a beginner. THanks for the help.

How much money do you have?
What are the plans for the car?
Daily driver?
Track car?
How much do you know about the subject?

and search.

Whats your budget?

The Integra motor (B18A) or the JDM Civic B16 would both work fine. Disregard the part he told you about the header because at this point its not even important

well first of all the header doesn't go on the block, it goes on the head. now, with that said if this is your first experince with this type of thing i suggest a b16 swap and go from there. with the b16 you get quite a bit of speed right away and the potential to do more. this is because in doing the b16 swap you get the car wired, get mounts and have the b series tranny and vtec head so that when you are ready to go bigger all you have to change is the motor or the block at the very least...

don't you mean a head not a header....i think you should go with a built b16a motor and turbo it later or just build an ls v-tec (acura block with a b16a head) i think your friend means the ls v-tec, correct me if i'm wrong.

why not just go ls. turbo that and youll have some good torque. the ls vtec is gonna be expensive. with the money you put into that vtec head you couyld probbly buy cams or be close. get a set of good cams get bigger valves and do a 3 angle and upgrade the springs and retainers. i wouldnt worry about porting and polishing unless your going all motor. and get some forged internals (pistons and rods) or you could get a complete rotating assembly already balanced for like 1450 bucks and and the head work would probably be around a grand and then peice together a turbo kit and you should be able to rev to about 8k or 9k and put ot some really nice power. you would also need a better clutch which would be about $250 and you could shave a little bit off of your stock flywheel and youd rev a little quicker. and to peice together a turbo kit you could probably do for about $2,000-2300. do alot of searching and you can find out a lot. you would need to get a mount kit and the linkage kit also. with that 10g's int the first year you could have that car built.

oh yeah you will also need some sort of fuel management. youll need a chipped ecu and youll have to tune the car. im sure someone in your area could help you with that.

I am not putting this together i will be ther when is being put together but there arae so many things i hear about i still research but they all sound so good. but i am leaning in the Ls V-tevh direction. THis dude in my frineds car club has a b 16 with a 6lb. flywheel and an ebay manifold i think. in his 1991 crx anways it was pretty nice for just that but i want a little more and he said i he would do any of the work if i just buy the beer. SO if u could give me more suggestions on what i should go with!!!! thanks

i wouldnt mind tryng a ls-vtec / b20-vtec but ive heard some nasty storys about them... doesnt seem to be the most reliable and ive heard some bad stuff about boosting them(something long stroke? and problems with oil...) you should decide if you want to boost or NA first of all, then decide from there :D

you should definately do lots of research before making ANY decisions...please

and i'd do a turbo d series...(quick, cheap, easy for first timers to learn)

plain and simple, you do not know enough yet to make an educated decision about this.
Read a ton more about how an engine works and understand what peak power is VS low end torque etc.. And learn what it feels like by riding in peoples cars that have similar engines.

(a good idea would be to test drive cars with swaps for sale in your area to find out what each engine feels like, drive 4 or 5, the first swap will make you think its the greatest thing ever)

Also you should get a used DC header for the B series engine, cheapest street price, best power. I got mine for $100, lil dent in the bottom, wouldn't even make a difference.
Oh and don't listen to your friends, people call me all day long saying "my friend told me to" and it's always a bad idea that F'd up their cars even more (i run Rywire.com)

(If you have to ask where to find a used DC header, just kill yourself, you lack the problem solving abilities to live) LOL jus playin

Read the FAQ Section of this forum, you will learn a TON. Every post buddy, it's good reading for any beginner. And this question is answered in detail in it.
