Q:Installing '95 Si EG sunroof onto a '93 Dx EG...
Okay so I posted last night and I got no help from anyone
... Here's the situation my friend crashed his rare "Rainbow series/edition" '95 civic si hb awhile ago and he parted out his car and asked me if I wanted his sunroof with all the hardware+wiring but my question is how do I got about with this process. He said it's been done several times before but he forgot how to do it correctly so I'm here asking the people on h-t to see if you guys have any helpful tips and/or if you guys have like a step by step procedure(with pics) on how to install the sunroof that would be greatly appreciated. So you guys are probably sitting there wondering why the **** I would do such a thing and the answer is simple because summer is coming up and all of you know how much it sucks to not have AC+power windows and plus I figured this might be a fun project. I'll even post pics of the step by step process but I just need some helpful tips if not the step by step procedure. C'mon h-t help a guy out in need of guidance!

Was there any roof damage? You can have the entire roof replaced. I was about to do this to a DX before I found my 2nd Si.
Make sure to have the entire roof w/moonroof mechanism, interior headliner, wiring harness, and drain hoses. That's all I can remember off the top of my head. Does your buddy have more stuff that I could possibly get off that Si?

I'm guessing, by rainbow edition, he's got the 94/95 Si seats. That's the only thing I can picture as rainbow. They have multiple colors whereas the 92/93 Si seats are black/white.

I agree with the above poster.
If it is possible to get the entire roof-skin, that'd probably be an easier route than measuring and cutting a whole in your roof. I dont know though, I've never done it.
Good luck if you get it fingered out.

Yeah we got the whole roof in his garage with everything we need to convert it I guess and yeah he has the multi-colored seats...
This will be the project of the century!

Well, it's already been done. JDMC has a lot of roof (w/moonroof) swappers in there. That's where I first got the idea from. GL on the project tho.

lol Rainbow edition? Thats funny stuff.
Anyways, yea, you might want to replace the entire roof if you really want to do this. Otherwise you will probably wind up with leaks. Just remember doing something like this is screwing with the structural regidity of the entire car. Your also adding a LOT of unecessary weight to an already light car, and in the worst spot too... right at the top!

Why cant you simply cut a hole in the roof for the sun roof instead of replacing the whole thing? Thats what I would do in your situation. I would try to look up some instructions for an aftermarket unit and follow those as a guide and make adjustments acordinly...

LOL you're funny man but yeah the guy is right about the whole weight issue but it's just me and my friends are bored and we've pretty much done a lot of things to different cars so we wanted to take on this challenge and post it on h-t once we're done.

i was thinking to get a moon roof for my hatch, but yea..i didnt want the unnecessary weight..but i was also told that probably 50% of people who actually cut their roof, will most likely get leaks..so if u do it, i'd say to replace the whole thing..sounds like fun, eh?..good luck mate!
To the guy recommending just cutting a hole: This is a good way to have leaks. If that cut isnt perfect, you will wind up with leaks, a bumpy/wavey roof and rust! I was never a large fan of aftermarket sunroofs. I would honestly just chop off the other roof and weld it to yours, again, this probably isnt the SAFEST method lol.
