Default The springs in my clutch are loose - is this ok to use?

I've got an ACT street disc clutch in my 90 CRX with ZC engine
I was examining the condition of the clutch and I noticed that the 4 captive springs in the friction disc are pretty loose (when you have the disc in your hand and shake it, the springs vibrate pretty noticeably)

Is this fine?
Or is this a sign that it's time to replace the disc

Thanks

bump - anyone?

Btw...how much torque can a stock clutch hold?
I sorely miss my stock clutch pedal feel (ACT was pretty stiff and hard on legs in traffic)
At 6psi I am around 160-180hp and maybe 150 ft-lbs torque?

Thanks

I personally would not use it. There only gonna get worse and possibly cause some damage. Plus I'm sure the loose springs are gonna cause some weird noises.

I would not recommend it because they might pop out, causing you to replace the clutch again and possibly damaging other items. See if you can get it rebuilt maybe?

Thanks guys. I sure appreciate the input

OK, I've decided to replace the friction disc and maybe the pressure plate.

What do you guys recommend for a mild zc turbo (approx 140-200 ft-lb tq; 160-250 hp)? I know it's a compromise but I'm HOPING to get something with less stiff pedal feel than I had with the ACT setup (driving in rush hour traffic was torture on my left leg)

Any opinions on Exedy?

(search function appears to be down still)

Thanks!

I only recommend ACT products.

I would go with something a little less harsh

Hey Ted. I wouldn't reuse that disc. As for finding another clutch, forget hp and find one that can handle your torque, that's how clutches are rated. I've always been a fan of ACT (I like a strong pedal feel ) but a buddy use to have a clutchmasters in his turbo crx and it had a much easier pedal feel than mine.

Thanks guys.

Sean, I've heard several people say the same thing about clutchmasters, so maybe I'll go with them.

90blackcrx: I *think* my existing ACT setup (organic street disc) is already their "soft" pressure plate that handles turbo setups. But let me check out the model # when I get home tonight.

I highly recommend the ACT HD/SS, great for daily driving (soft on your foot/leg) and good enough for the strip.

You know its weird, I installed an ACT clutch in my car, and then I installed the same one in a customers car, and his pedal is about 75% harder then mine.

...REALLY??
Verrry interesting data point. Not that I have any firsthand experience, but from my 3 hours of searching/reading this morning (google, H-T posts, zc resource, etc etc) I noticed that people said the same thing, and the differentiator was the clutch CABLE.

So, I know that I will definitely be changing the cable before I drop the motor in.

Thanks for the info

I really think it is the cable, when I did my swap I modified the cable. We did not have to for his swap because the cable worked, but I'm thinking we should modifiy it to see if that helps.

Were both cars hydro/cable? Or was one hydro and the other cable?
