Default rust on tranny. safe to put on?

i've had my replacement transmission sitting out for awhile and it's been through rain and all that and built up some surface rust on where the axles insert to. will this be ok to put on? thanks.

...please tell me you had all the openings plugged. If not, you've probably got water in your tranny...a sure fire way to sieze your bearings.

Surface rust on the case is fine. Rust on the steel 'spring' inside the axle seals is not ok. Water in your transmission killing your bearings is not ok.

Open the drain plug and see what the fluid looks like. Try spinning the tranny by hand and see if you can feel any tough spots, or hear anything that sounds nasty.

What tranny is it? Don't toss it...they can ALWAYS be fixed. Hell, if you're going to toss it, I'll pay shipping to toss it my way. My garrage is already a Honda tranny orphanage.

D-series trannys can be a pain when it comes to tearing down the shafts, but opening the case is a cinch. You'll be able to spot all the problematic bearings once inside.
