Default Testpipe=oil burnning faster?

of course i could be extremely wrong but
i was reading some other peoples threads....
and it was somewhat implyed that if you have a test pipe your oil burns faster
not just through the
but because a test pipe is not insulated "just a pipe" it "test pipe" is actually hotter and because its by the oil pan it makes the oil burn faster

TRUE/FALSE?

I'd have to say false...Test pipes on usdm headers are under the steering rack and chassis... not the oilpan. If you are worried about head from the exhaust into the oilpan... get header wrap or some of the spoon stuff for the bottom of the oilpan.

I'd almost guess that it would run cooler(doubtful, it would be noticeable)... because less backpressure will allow the gasses to leave the exhaust system faster. Pressure before the cat, would hold heat in longer.

I second that motion. The cat/testpipe starts way farther back, not near the oilpan. I just wrapped my downpipe because it was close to the oilpan last night, and I didn't touch my testpipe because it isn't even close to the oilpan.

Plus, the catalytic conversion process is EXOthermic, so it puts out a lot of heat. Cats get really hot.

If you're concerned about heat by the oil pan...

ceramic heat shielding, half-inch thick.

if one were to insulate the oil pan, wouldn't that defeat the purpose because it would trap the heat inside the oil pan instead of allowing the heat to escape? that's just my common sense, but i might be VERY wrong.

let me disregard this comment to the people that are insulating the exhaust system. =P i do not know if it were suggested that someone insulate the oilpan itself, but that's what i thought was implied.

My post may have been ambiguous, but yes, absolutely, insulate the exhaust and not the oil pan!

I believe there is some stick-on insulation you could use on the pan itself, but I wasn't suggesting that.

it would be nice if you could stop oil consumption by replacing exhaust parts, but that far from reality.
