Yellowbook -> Welding

Probably looking at a half an hour or so to build up the material at $70/hour. Little bit more time if you need it drilled and tapped.

check on a price for a new side of the tranny casing and then get a price for the welding job....... you might be able to buy the brand new case for around the same price

LOL, maybe if he needed to pieces of the case welded, let say for example this is a GSR trans... This part is $375.67 retail and Delray Acura out of FL would discount it to $300.46, but all that comes with is the breather cap and the oil gutter plate. I personally wouldn't resuse the shim but the rest of the stuff should be good. Here is a link to where I got this info from..
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/d...ch=no Happy Tuning!!! Get it welded BTW..

if you honestly search around hard enough you can find a used case.. iknow there are plenty of shop around that has these cases laying around that are in good condition... and take it to a tranny shop and let them swap it out... You are lucky becuase that is the easy side to replace.. all you have to do is pop the back off that broke and pop the new one in without even touching any of the gear set....

Used case.. $100 max

1 1/2 hour labor max to swap case... $120

This would certainly work and is 100% correct. Now if it was the clutch housing then I would suggest just getting a new trans and using that one for parts.

Now the other side mount bolt MAY be able to completely support the weight of the trans but I wouldn't chance it. Look at your pic again and let us know how you would feel if BOTH were fucked like that... HAPPY TUNING!! or fixing in this case..

i couldn't weld this becuase chances are it probably wont line up the threads correctly and would be more of a hassle to fix... swaping back casing is a sure and garuantee fix...

i've been told on several occasions that the tranny case can't be welded or JB Welded.something to effect of it being very porous aluminum,and that is would crack back out eventually...don't know how true that is,maybe some of the experts here can agree or disagree.
with two different tranny cases that i've broken myself,as well as with a couple for friends,i've bought whichever half of the case is broken used,and never had any problems.i've paid from $25 to $50 for either half for D and B series cases.you will need to reshim the mainshaft and diff,and it's not a bad time to freshen up everything while you're in there.
currently i'm fixing the LS tranny that i did have in my beater.i got the clutch housing for $50,replaced all the sealed bearings(OEM from Sunnyside Acura-good prices),and got the Gearspeed carbon synchro rings.i've got about $350 in parts so far.
it could very well be cheaper to buy another used tranny.it just depends on if you can do the work yourself(labor will add up quick),and how much needs to be replaced.it also depends on if you want to have another used tranny that you're not certain of it's past.this tranny i'm currently rebuilding will be going in my coupe,which will by fall have over 500WHP-i want it to be bulletproof.if it were going back in my 140HP beater,i'd probably bypass all the hassle and just buy another used tranny.
BTW-i noticed you said that the seller told you the tranny was in good shape.i wouldn't count on anything.this LS tranny of mine that just exploded was bought from sombody on here.they claimed it had low mileage and was in perfect shape.it had a horrible bad bearing noise from the day i installed it,and finally the diff exploded

did he mean the diff had broken?if so,that can cause some serious damage.fragments of metal from the diff can ruin gears,bearings and bust through the case.
