Default T28 Ball bearing on ITR

Hi Guys

I have recently aquired a T28 Ball bearing turbo for my ITR This Turbo is a stock unit from a Skyline R34 GTR. A/R = 53 I have been assured by the seller that I can make 330 - 350 hp at the crank with a good setup and this turbo.

I personally feel that 330 - 350 hp would really be pushing the boundaries of this turbo. Also when would the Turbo run out of puff on the rev range currently my max power of 198hp is @ 7995? Could anyone tell me if these figures are realistic and if this Turbo can handle the sort of power I am talking about. Thanks very much for your help. Here are some pics :-

unless you autox or just wanna a really great street turbo, dont buy it. It wont be able to pull 350hp

I would look into a Precsion SC34 or a GT30R ( even better).
We did 340whp with a SC34 at 13lbs on a stock ITR with very good spool.

But will I be able to get good performace gains with this Turbo as I have read a few posts on Hondatech saying that it may even lose power on the ITR....

youd gain power, but it would be all low and mid. that turbo sucks for top end

hehe, i could use this for my sohc turbo go kart tho

I guess this turbo is not much good for me as I am barley into a decent rev range and the boost will be dropping off. I really wanted it boosting a lot higher up ..

It would be helpful if I could have some other hondatech users post there views on max hp for this unit.

thanks

if you want a t28...get one off of a Pulsar GTi-R

i have the GTi-R swap in my sentra...and the turbo is good for 300whp in an AWD pulsar.

.86a/r i believe t28bb

you would gian no doubt. But it will run out of steam up top.

Dont worry about max HP, worry about a workable powerband to the motor you are using.

I have a really small turbo in my Supra and I know the effects of it. I lose boost by a few pounds on the top end and kinda falls on its face. It sucks.
Just something to make you rethink a little

Funny thing is my stock turbo is actually really big for a stock turbo. But my displacement I guess changes some things. People flip when they see the CT-26 in hand compared to like a WRX turbo or DSM turbo.

Looks small compared of my T67 from my ITR. lol

yeah, you run out of power up top.. Its not like your making 350whp at 5k rpm and then all the sudden it drops to 275 at 8k...

I mean you'll pull, and then you'll just pull about the same later. Instead of much harder...

In addition to all the other considerations, you might look at how that turbo mounts. Has to use studs so a cast mani is prob out. A tubular mani with a flange would be ok.

the T28 has been proven to do 350whp but I don't know about that turbo for sure. I know on my friends SR his T28BB did 316whp on a 8:1 compression motor.

it will spool quick but fall off.

look at vtec doods dyno of his GT30R good spool and the best street turbo out there IMO

I've done the Pulsar GTi-R T28 on my old B20 CRX. IMHO, if you want a nice street able turbo, this would be the way to go. My B20 made 210WHP at 6K..and 190lb/ft.. 175 by 3500... No fall off up top.
This was at 6psi, BTW.
It also had cams, a Skunk2IM, cam gears, chipped ECU 450s and an AFC...
But the B18C has such a nice flowing head, it wouldn't need the cams or Skunk2IM..
Anyway, that being said. Go with something with a T3 turbine housing. It's just easier in the long run, plus you could find something with similar spool characteristics to the .86 ar T25 turbine housing...
I wouldn't go with a turbine housing as small as the one you have in that pic, as it would definately choke off your top end performance.
