6th Gen Accord Recalls - Ignition Switch
I found a letter dated last year about a recall being done to the 6th Gen Accord models for some kind of an ignition part replacement. I'm just wondering if anyone else received the same letter and did you have any problems prior to the recall? Is it too late for me to get the recall done as it's obviously from last year?
Another Qs... I'm thinking about replacing my Distributor/Ignition Coil for tuneup purposes and was wondering if anyone has the part# for all the needed parts and where is the cheapest to get them at?
Thanks alot.

I received that one a couple years ago, had the work done then. One thing though, after the dealer did the job I saw that they had mangled the cover for the stearing column (looked like somebody was trying to pop it open with a screwdriver), they replaced it after I pointed this out.
As for whether or not it's too late, I doubt it, just call your local Honda dealer. If it's still valid you can bet they'll do it, easy money for them.
I had another recall, something about the throttle body coil or something like that, supposedly some 6th generations have trouble passing emissions tests in California without this fix. I never got the work done, was worried that it might mess with my mileage or power.

Y do you want to replace distributor? If you want to do the minor tune up, here is the list:
Air filter(replace if it is stock; clean if it is aftermarket)
PVC valve
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Distributor cap
Distributor rotor
Valve clearance
Valve cover gasket set (replace if it is in bad condition)
Those are main things. Ignition coil, ignitor you don't need to replace.

Reason why I’m wanting to replace the the ignitor/distributor/coil is my car now wont start. When I put in the key and turn it will crank like the battery is very weak and then I switch it back to OFF. Next time I switch it back to ON there wont be any power whatsoever to the car. I’ve changed out the battery already with the same result so I know it’s not a bad battery. I can jump start the car and it will start but the moment I turn off the engine and tried starting it again will be nothing. One thing I did notice during when car is running I turn on the headlights and if I roll down my windows (Power Windows) headlights seems to flicker….
Any ideas???
Thanks.

I'm actually going to pull the alternator this weekend to get checked by Kragen but why would the car only crank with a known good battery from another car?
How to check for bad dizzy or ingitor/coil?

If your ingnitor or coil was shock the car will not start at all! My ignitor went last month and all the car will do is crank, no spark. The only way to tell which on it is ignition or coil is to take them somewhere and get them check or replace one then the other. i say start with the coil it is cheaper!
Ok thanks Mr. Speed will try replacing the coil first then go from there... As far as replacement is it best to go with Honda OEM or will a NAPA/Kragen/Pepboys replacement do as well??? How much are these parts we talking about (coil,ignitor,dizzy,etc..)???
Last Q, are there anything specific I need to do or follow during install? Any walkthroughs would be helpful as it will speed up my labor time...
Thanks Guys!!!

The ignitor you could take to Autozone to check. They have the machine and harness to do the job. Or you could use a multimeter to check to see if they are within specs. I doubt that either the coil or the ingitor have problem. If they do, there won't be any spark and the engine won't start at all.
