Default Lack of sway bar question

Would a lack of a front sway bar on a 93 hatch cause extreme loosness and play iin the steering. Like i turn the steering wheel in the car, im about to buy and it seems like there little turn in the wheels untill i get passed 10 degrees in each direction.

Your car shouldn't do that. Get under the dash board & inspect the "U" joint in the steering column. I have read in another thread that somebody found theirs was going bad, and they had major play in the steering. The U joint (#13) is underneath a cover (#12) between the pedals. There should be two clips (#14/15) around the plastic cover, and then two plastic nuts (#40) holding the cover to the floor. My CRX also had a push type clip (#38) that I just yanked out by pulling the cover up off the floor. There is also a second U joint built into the steering column (#10). If that one is bad, you will have to replace the colunm...

this is not a suspension problem. play in tie rods probably. but it has nothing to do with swaybars.

There's also an adjustment on the steering rack guide (big plug #4) that can possibly cause the looseness. Rack guide (#5) presses the rack against the pinion. Get your hands on a Helm book for the proper tensioning procedure.

You're also comparing a street car built for homologation of a race car to an econobox. They damn well better be different. But, as said, who cares.
