Check Engine light in 88 DX, Help...
I just got my car certified today and right when I took it out on the highway the check engine light came on. I pulled over and checked the oil, rad coolant, stuff like that and nothing seemed to be wrong. I drove the rest of the way home with the light on (about 30 mins on the highway) and it ran fine. Any ideas of what this could be????
pull the carpet up on the passengers side kickpanel. Thats where your ecu is located. You'll see a metal plate covering the ecu, with a hole through it. There will be a visable red led which will blink the correct code. ex: 4 blinks is code 4, just as 12 blinks would be code 12. Also, it IS possible to have more than one code. It will just blink them one after the other.
After you figure out what code your throwing,
go here ---> http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/tech/codes.html
The hybrid honda site has a ton of usefull info.
The most common code is code 1, which is just a worn oxygen sensor.
If your unsure of what the code your getting means, just post here. I'm sure someone can help you further.

Theres a website that lists the trouble codes , a Google search should find it quick . Did your idle speed seem to be irratic or higher than normal - namely did your engine race at a standstill ? My old 88 DX had problems with its TPS a couple times , the only times I have had a check light .
Yes, you can check codes on your 88 DX the same way. All the 88-91 hondas (that i'm aware of) have a red led built right into them.
Also, the link i posted is IMO, the best list of codes on the net.
Just FYI:
After 92, the led dissapeared but instead there is an open connector under the dash near the ecu. You jump the connector, and then the actual check engine light will blink.

I checked the ECU and the light blinked 16 times. This is the info I got from hybrid honda:
16
Accord Civic CRV CRX Del Sol Odyssey Prelude
90-95 88-95 n/a 88-91 93-95 95 88-95
Fuel Injector System
defective circuit or unplugged / defective fuel injector
Any tips on how to fix it....?? I don't feel a difference though when I'm driving so I think it might just be defective...

Probably bad fuel injector, like the code implies.
you should be able to get all four injectors from a u-pull-it yard for under ten bucks. Its either that, or the resister box. But those never seem to go bad, so prolly just an injector.

He has a dx so unless he did a dpfi to mpfi he has two injectors. Code 16 is fairly common. Go grab a few sets of the fuel injectors from a salvage yard and see if it goes away after pulling the hazard fuse in your engin bay fuse box to reset the ecu. First check to make sure the connectors are completely plugged into the injectors. They could have not plugged one all the way in but the car will still run with a primary injector.
If it has been converted to dpfi then check the wiring to the ecu and to all the injectors. Also make sure the resistor box is plugged in. It could also be the ecu doing it.
