Weird sound from newly installed Porterfield R4-S pads.
Today I went to my local mechanic and installed new Porterfield R4-S pads on all four corners. After that, we bleed the old brake oil out using the traditional two-man style pump, hold and depress method. Because the oils are not coming out fast enough, I have to man-foot the brake all the way down to squeeze them out. Is this bad for the Master cylinder?
Anyhow, using up not even two bottles of Motul 600, the bleeding is done and I baby it home. 2 hours later, I drove the car again to get my rims checked and I notice a weird noise from the front end of my car. It occurs only when I tap brake really slowly...like stop the car rolling at a traffic light or stop sign, 5mph or less braking. The sound resemble an old bicycle's brakes or a low horn. I've yet break-in the brake pad yet, I have to wait till new tires are on to do the hard 40-0 and 60-0 braking.
Does anyone know what problem am I having? The brake fluids levels are fine, didn't see any leakage, initial bite of the pad seems good but I didn't really have any hard braking yet to really tell.

my friend with a first gen gsr replaced his oem with porterfield's on all four corners and noticed that the front ones are squeeking or a grinding sound is comming from the fronts, no matter if he is breakign or driving. its weird. he thinks the pads are pushing that little metal bracket onto the rotors, but not sure....
I also notice that ITR's front brake pads don't come with the inner shims?
And my mechanic also have to grind a bit on the rear pads to have the retainers fit.
The noise is annoying and embarrasing, I hope it's the cause of not broken in.
Have your friend found a cure of he just drive the car with that insecured noise?
And any tips of preventing the rotor from warping with these new pads?

I just want to know if that sound is the infamous "brake noise" that everyone talked about...and want to know if the noise indicates something abnormal: somthing loose or pads not broken in.

Mine make a high-pitched squeal to a moan under super-light braking, as they should. Loud Brakes is good brakes!!! You should heard the Panther Plus under moderate braking...SQUUUUUUUEEAAALl
the old fashion way to pump brake oil out will not cause damage to your MC......I use that method to change my brake fluid everytime b4 I went to track...it just fine.
As for the noise from the braking ...... it should be fine. High perfromance pad usually have more sound than stock pad.
I bought the R4-S also but I just don't have time to do it yet.

They don't squeal, but sound more like grind of rubber, I just want to identify the sound to make sure it's a healthy one. I'll do some hard braking tomorrow and see what happens.
you can take the wheels out and inspect the whole brake system to make sure there's nothing wrong b4 you hard on the brake.
A brake can save you only if they're in sound conditions.

Ray,
When we meet up, take a ride in my car. I have the R-4S and there is no noise whatsoever. I also may have broke them in the wrong way. I didn't do any panic stops for the first 50-100 miles or so, then I got on them hard. I have no problems, no noise, and just the normal excessive dusting.

is it like a metallic sound like when a shop cuts rotors?
prob normal
Ive run full race pads at the track which i wore out in 3 days
killed the rotors and like a dummy didnt bring an extra set
drove home with paper thin pads and shot rotors
but they made an awful sound which you get used to
if you listen while watching Tarzan beat on a car at Tsukuba in the Options videos
you will hear the same noise

Why are you waiting to bed them in? Did you get new rotors? You don't want green fade in an emergency (scary).
Just torque your wheels evenly to prevent rotor warpage. Has worked for me so far. Other than that, don't park with the brakes extremely hot, avoid turning the rotors, ...
What I get on my car,
R4S noise: high pitched squeal. Dust: kinda rust colored.
Great street/autox pads though (use P+ for the track),
