Can the Mugen Muffler be Restrictive at High Rpms with Bigger Cams.? Any info out there?
Has anyone here ever tested the Mugen Twin Loop muffler at all ?, I am wondering if it could get restrictive at higher rpms and when you go with bigger mods such as Jun or Toda cams. I have the Mugen twin loop on my car for a couple years now and it has been a great street muffler. I have switched to Jun2 cams a while back and something is hurting my top end power , where torque really drops off quickly after 7500 rpms, power drops after 8000 rpms, only thing I might suspect is the muffler. Any info would be great , thanks.

On the R I don't feel the power drop until 8600 w/ the Mugen exhaust. It's just running a CTR intake cam. What size is your B pipe? Header collector? Cat? TB? Intake Tube?

Do you have the JDM Mugen catback or the USDM?? If you have the USDM (ie, you bought from King Motorsports without specifying that you wanted a JDM exhaust), then that is definitely hurting your top end power.
I have heard that the Twin-Loop exhaust has a bottle neck either at the end of the B-pipe or the muffler inlet...can anyone confirm/dispell this?
jdm and usdm are the same diameter..just the length of b-pipes is different...most "jdm exhausts" will have a 2.25 inlet after the cat...i.e. spoon, mugen etc.
twin loop is a good mid-range low end torque exhaust system...if your looking for maximum gains and peak horsepower it might be a bit restrictive..
uncorking my exhaust at the header help me get over the 200whp mark...with it on...the best i could do was 198whp...

I am running the USDM Mugen Twinloop, with an ITR mid-pipe (which has the bottle necks removed). I have the large Carsound cat. , my intake is from Comptech, so I am thinking there isn't too much other restrictions on the setup. The Mugen muffler itself doesn't appear to have any bottle necks on the pipe entering the muffler as it is really big (2.5" or so). But the secondary pipe that loops around is about 2 inches or so. I am thinking with the curves it may get a bit restrictive at the seondary loop pipe, but I am not totally sure. I may have to dyno without the muffler to be sure I guess. I think if a car gains 2-3 whp with pulling the exhaust system it isn't that restrictive, if you gain 5whp or more then that might be an indication of a restrictive exhaust. If anyone else has an opinion on this I would love to hear it. thanks.
