Car cut out on freeway and will not start now.
I was pulling on to the freeway last week and the engine just lost all power and the rpms dropped to 2k rpm. I downshifted and nothing happened so i turned off the engine and coasted to the shoulder. After that, the car would not start. I had it towed to my house and have worked on it a little but have not been able to get any results. The engine turns over but will not start up. I bought new spark plugs but there does not seem to be a spark. I replaced the distributer cap and the rotar because they needed it anyway. I can smell gas when i try to start it up but it just will not start. I checked the wires in the distributer to make sure they were working and they all seemed to be fine. Anyone else have this problem or suggestions on what I should check? Thanks a lot for the help. Oh yeah this is a 94 GSR.
I see you're diagnosing the problem pretty well so far....
You say there's no spark. How did you come to this conclusion? You changed the plugs, cap/rotor already. Did you check the ignitor? They are kinda pricey, so see if you can swap one out from another Honda buddy temporarily to see if that's the culprit.
The car is cranking and turning over, correct? You smell fuel, but are the injectors firing? Can you hear the fuel pump priming?
When the car died and the rpm's dropped, what exactly happened? Any noises? Could you rev up the car at all?

no noises at all. it just lost all power and the rpms dropped. the car would not rev up at all. yeah the ignitor is really expensive that is why i didnt want to replace it with out know that that was the problem. Does anyone know if the one in my 98 R interchangeable so I could see if that really is the problem?
