What causes a bad wheel bearing? What are the signs of a bad wheel bearing?

I have had several wheel beraings go bad,..usually due to road racing. The best way to check if it bad is to jack up the car, grasp the tire and move it up and down. It will not move [that] much,...in other words if the tire moves excessevly and all of your suspension is tight,....you may have a wheel bearing issue.

Curious as to how much it cost to have fixed. My dad dropped off my integra today to have the 2 front fixed along with an inspection. Quote with labor was $420, I believe that also included the price of inspection.

As you pick up speed it gets louder.

It seems to me that brake rotor heat kills the bearing grease, for road racing people.

Somehow, mine were covered under warranty in 2002, even though I bought the car in 1998. *shrug* Might be good news if yours is a 2001.

Noise under braking is almost always the brakes. Check out your pads and rotors.

My wheel bearings were a constant noise, but changed pitch when turning away from the bad bearing (i.e. driver side bearing got really loud when turning right)
