Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think he was talking about the jdm d15b, which is vtec. I would say Y8 because if you are doing cam and gear, there goes the cam of the d15b. And you also get more displacement from the Y8, but the d15b has a better rod/stroke ratio, but that wont matter if you keep the stock redline and do block work.

i say you should get the b15b since it is obd1, but if you are worried about smog get the y8, because you cant smog the d15b sincs it wasnt offered in any american cars
Y8 for sure thats what i am buying hopefully tonight or tomorrow night. I want to get it in the car running right with just intake/header/exhuast and then if it runs well sc or turbo it
Ask Bisi if the Y8 is King of all SOHC motors....
I don't fancy the Y8.
Too many changes from the previous year D-series.
Good quench on the head, but overall designed mainly for efficiency.

they make the same hp, and if you're only doing bolt-ons, go with the D15B. try finding a y8 that is in as good condition with as low miles as you can find a D15B for. good luck. if you do, you will pay double what you would for the 1.5.
400 with tranny is what i am finding y8s all over the internet i am picking one up complete motor and harness no tranny for 300 this wekend clean as hell.... thats cheaper than the d15b if im not mistaken
I say use what you can get the quickest and for the least amount of cash. I am running a mini me using a d15b7 block and ported y8 head. That little bastard has some pull in the upper rev range. The best part is I got the head for free cause it had bent valves. I ported the head myself and with all gaskets and and some other things I put together a quick CRX HF for around $250. I also scored a free PM6 ECU and CRX SI tranny for $50 bucks. Also got a free APEXi VAFC. So I would look at doing whatever is least costly. Remember more money for the motor eguals less to make it faster.
d16z6 is the king of single cam vtecs. d15b7 is of the non vtec single. if the d15 your talking bout is jdm go with it. if not find you a z6 out of a 92-95 si. or get a b7 and go mini-me. good luck. holla

Riiiiiiiight.

ok regasrdless of what most of these guys say any 1.5 stock vesus a 1.6 stock sucks. trust me ive had a jdm d15b , a d15b2, a d15b7 now. THEY ALL SUCK a rediculus amount. But i am going to buy a d16y8 head and put it on the d15b7 for now till the new rods, seals ,bearings, pistons and springs go in the d16y7 block i am building, the ill take my y8 head off, put the old d15b2 head back on (which i am currently running) send the head off to king motorsports, have the valves done, and the head shved slap it on the y7 block and have a fully respectable y7/y8 mini swap with an si tranny bolted up for a clean 10.1:1 compression and can run about 12 lbs of boost safely. now for all you DOHC guys out there. your motors are great but costly and i cant remember the last time you could run a supercharger on a b16. but even if you could your talking 3 times the amount of money and evenat bone stock are still spending the money for the swap im doing with built internals and head for reliability and good power while all youve got is stock b series power. i can throw a turbo on mine and you can throw the same one on yours, but whose ultimatly will do more damage in the long run. a conditioned and built d seires or a stock b. cost says go with a d and do it the right way cause (on the side of the b-series guys) the rods suck. but if money is no object when it comes to throwing between 2 and 5 thousand dollars just under the hood, go with a b. JUST DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. plan it out first. find any motor you can build for a few months while driving the car. who cares what the car has now. itll get you your paycheck. just buy a different motor and a motor stand and have fun
