Default Does gauge brand matter?

Of course I am trying to save money. I see $15 gauges on eBay. The concept of mechanical gauges is all the same, I don't see how one could be much worse than another.

Anyone care to explain?

Defi: $alot
Autometer: $45
eBay: $15

Thanks

The cheap ones break and are innacurate.

By cheap I mean autometer... hehe

If you have to cheap out, get autometer.

If you have the cash, get cool defi/greddy/apex gauges.

Things are cheap for a reason.

And with autometer, you are definately not paying for style or brand name. They are ugly and autometer is pretty entry level for gauges

Autometer actually has some really nice high end electronic guages. These are much more accurate than their mechanical gauges.

I'm getting the distinct feeling that this guy doesn't want high end anything heheh

Maybe I've just had bad luck with autometer.

I think you may have. Just about 90% of American racing teams use Autometer gauges.

They do... but I don't think they necessarily use them because they are the best... They are just the most marketed/publicized.

For what it is worth, I've only had one electronic Autometer(EGT) and it worked great. It's the mechanical ones that have given me trouble (boost off a few psi, and one that just stopped working entirely hehe).

The big advantage of the electronic gauges is that you don't have to run actual *pressure lines* into your cabin!

Who likes american racing teams anyway? I don't think they are JDM enough for me. hehe.

Mechanical gauges, in general, are not as accurate or precise as electronic gauges.

autometer are top of the line gauges. i dont know why people think that they suck. yeah the mechanical ones may not be the best in every situation but are you basing your results on what you have heard, or what you have seen with you own eyes. Autometer makes some fashionable gauges, their Phantom series gauges are nice as well as some of the more appealing carbon fiber series gauges too. I know plenty of tuners who use mechanical autometer gauges for everything and have had to problems in the past. You know just cause something isnt "JDM" doesnt mean its ****

Autometer has been around forever so they must be doing something right. Muscle car have used them forever and they haven't had any huge complaints about them. I agree that they may not be the best and the best looking, but they will get the problem done with out any problems at all. I have Apexi EL2 and like them alot but they seem to feel very light and kinda cheap (Eventhough they weren't cheap at all). I have two freinds that have Defi's and they look great and have excellent construction. If you are looking to get out cheap then go with the Autometer over the ebay speacials.
