Default Removing hub to get to C/V boot

I could use a little help here. My old C/V boot (outer) on my '84 Accord was badly split in half. I took the wheel off and jacked up the front of the car. I bent out the locking points that hold the 32mm nut on. Basically I used my full body weight (180 lbs) and could not move the nut for the life of me. I was afraid I would damage the vehicle as I was starting to spin the rotor and axle as I jumped on the wrench (I know...) I read somewhere else that it is good to have someone step on the brakes, so I will try that, but I figured I would ask if that nut is reverse-thread or if there is also some other locking feature (such as a cotter pin) that I was missing. I have the specific 1984 service manual and it didn't specify as to the direction of the nut, so I figured it was normal thread. If anyone has any info to share, it would be appreciated.

It is not reverse threaded. Try this.

Pop the hubcap/center cap off of the wheel so you can still get to the nut.

Put the wheel on the car and fasten it with the lugnuts

Lower the car, set the ebrake.

Try again with your 32mm nut and breaker bar, use a gigantic cheater bar if you have to.

first off if youre gonna change the boot you may as well change the whole shaft

and just get a long breaker bar with a pipe or something to make a cheater and it should come off, heat it up with a torch if you need to

unless you hear a clicking noise on turn from that side where the boot is ripped there is no need to replace the shaft like jeremy suggested you can get a boot kit for around 8-10 dollars,,comes with boot , greazse and both bands to do the job....

axle nut is staked, get a flat head and make sure you unstake it. i use a 3/4'' ratchet and a fat metal pipe as a cheater pipe.

Is the center nut on all Accord years the same size 32mm? I have a 1997 Accord and was wondering...

Thanks for the info. Probably run me about $15 dollars at Sears for a socket that big.

I am going to use a piece of steel pipe as a DIY breaker bar. Breaker bars are quite expensive I've found out....The pipe is quite heavy and strong and should work....
