Default had quite the scare last night...

so i was driving last night and miss shifted 3-4, i went 3-2 instead. shifted at 3rd gear redline and i swear the tach jumped to 10k, but the thing is nothing happened, didn't hear any weird noises, knocking and no engine seizing (check engine light didn't even come on) i was sure something like that woulda blown the motor, so i kept driving to my destination, parked and did my thing, when it came time to leave i was afraid it might not start, but it did...with no problems. car drives fine like nothing happened, gears are smooth and all, my question is if there still might be damage i don't know of, bent valves etc. i was on clubrsx last night and i read about the ecu datalogging the rpms and speed at which the miss-shift happened, just wondering if anyone could help me on this, i'd go to club rsx but their site is down for now and i already did a search on here. thanks

The K20 is a tank....I've read that it can rev to 10,000. I don't think I'd want to do that often, but I think you're fine. Even the Hondata reflash will reflash your ECU to 8600rpm from 7900. I wish I remembered where I read about the engine components, but I think you're good. You might have had some valve flutter for a bit there, but you'd know if there was something wrong.

thanks for the reply, how big of a problem is valve flutter? i know honda engines are almost bullet proof but i've read that ppl have blown their motors miss shifting from 3-2, i guess i'm just lucky enough to dodge a bullet

i think if you've been driving the car for a while now without any problems, you're really find.

what was your speed when you shifted?

over-revving an engine sometimes takes a while to show. if the rods stretched a little or the caps deformed, it won't be apparent immediately.

I broke a halfshaft on my prelude and it reved to about 10k as well. Probably the scariest thing ive ever experienced because this was the day after my H22 swap. Needless to say it still runs great. I think you will be alright.

values don't seal right up...no time for them to do that due to the rev's but I think you're ok....

I bet your rods are a little on the not so perfect side anymore...but you would have to take a microscope to it to check...but then again, a little damage on your bearings would be noticable. How would you be able to tell if you bearings are ok or not? cant tell unless the motor blows chunks one day or you tear the baby down. for most people, they wont do the tear down, so good luck

I had a k20a blow up under my foot so I am a little weary. My friend blew his the same day too...and that other guy blew his, and Andrie blew his, and Troy blew his k20a2, and his friend blew his k20a2 as well...man the list just doesnt stop.....
