Painting Muffler?
I was just wondering what you guys used to paint your muffler black? I painted mine before but it didn't stay to nicely. I now have a new muffler and want to this one right. I'm guessing just the normal sanding and prep work, followed by some high-temp engine paint? I'm not to fond of the ugly silver stock muffler sticking out on a black car.
I thought about some primer, but I do not think the primer has the same properties of the high-heat engine paint so that my cause some trouble with the high-temps?
Let me know your methods!

i don't think any paint will last long. when it rains, your muffler basically gets pressure washed by the spray your tires spit up. my best advice...cheap spraypaint (high temp if you want, i use regular) applied once every couple of months.

Yeah man, so true.

Thats what happened to the paint job on my old exhaust, but I also didn't prep it so well, so thats why I figured it didn't stay to nice. I will try the grille paint and see if that will help my case.

I sanded my worldsport with 400 grit sandpaper. Wiped it down with paint thinner. Allowed it to dry. Applied 3 light coats of hi-temp primer, applied 3 coats of high temp flat black. Put it on the car after the paint was dry to the touch and made a 1.5 hour drive to allow it to cure. I had no problems ever with chipping or flaking.

It's all in the prep, gentlemen. I've done everything from mufflers to hubcaps to foglight covers with spray-on flat and semi-flat black and none of them has ever failed me. Sand with some moderate-grit paper (I'm actually a fan of 650-800), wash with alcohol and spray four or five clean coats on there. Let it chill for a while and you're golden.
And yeah, I recommend some sort of high-temp paint for the muffler. If your car is turbocharged or driven in autoX or HPDE events, it'll get hot enough to kill regular paint.

Prep it right. I know someone who painted thier Valve Cover w/ regular ol Krylon. No problems.
I've painted my entire car, wheels, valve cover, charge pipes, downpipe etc... muffler should be ok w/ whatever you got.
