Default I ran over something...

I ran over some big metal oject on the highway at about 65 MPH. As soon as I hit the object I got a CEL and my car shut off. I pulled over and looked under the car and saw some of the metal heat shield were torn by the Cat so I am sure some damage was made to my O2. My exhaust is now leaking and car rattles like ****. I waited for FHP and got a crash report incase there was sufficient damage I can report a claim. The next day I got under my car and saw that the bottom of my car was deeply gouged and cut. There is a lot of damage and i dont know if its reparable. Luckily no damage was done my my comptech sway/tie bar kit. I called my insurance company and filed a claim since I am not really sure how much more damage there iis to the car.

Have any of you had to deal with an insurance company for a similar claim?

oil pan is fine from what I see. the damage is by the center console and after that.
The CEL is still on.

i had the same exact problem during my commute from MN to Cali, vise-versa. i ran over a muffler and i called the cops, insurance. next thing i know i had a point deducted from DMV because in courts' eyes, the one that ran over the object is at fault because the driver was going "too fast" to avoid it. now my insurance went up.

The trooper told me the way he filled out the report was so I would not be held responsible for the incident.

That sucks, that **** just fell off the truck and was in my way. I had my 2 daughters in the car so I could not swerve to miss the object (too dangerous).

Here is a pic of some of the damages

This is about 2 feet long. There is damage to the heat shields, cat, O2, gas tank, gas tank straps, and **** it torn to shreds down there.

Out of pure curiousity, wouldn't you be more concered about structural damage rather than some replaceable parts? If I was you, I'd a wished that comptech stuff got wasted and the uni-body of my car was still fully intact. *shrug

At any rate, that sucks the person who lost something was unaware or irresponsible to pull over and pick up the garbage. Hope your insurance co. doesn't raise your rates.

Just had a thought. If this was to go to court like the other guy, you could argue that it's the jobs of the highway patrol and DOT to keep the freeways safe from objects that can do such extensive damage like that.

the structural damage is my main concern. I am just glad the comptech was not damaged so I can take it off (ins. wont cover my Comptech). Its funny because I work for FDOT so I will def follow this up. Also, I did not get a ticket for this so I will not be going to court.

They might think you were racing. If I were you, I'd replace anything under the hood with stockness before they come. Don't replace the exhaust though, since that got damaged.

Adjuster will come to look at it this week. Car is stock under the hood so no worries there.

I was always curious about incidents like these. Can an insurance company DENY to cover you if your car is lowered?

Not sure about denying it...
The Tranny was cracked, exhaust system needed replacement as well as gas tank.
SRS light is on so there may have been some damage to that. Engine lost oil (maybe damaged oil pan) shift linkage was bent. The underbody of the car was damaged and could be repaired by replacing the floor (est $4000 from what adjuster told me).

I released the car to the insurance comp yesterday. I will be on a search for a stock EM1 (99-00 Civic Si) my other dream car.

I do have a few things FS for the teg if anyone is interested. Help me out guys. I did not have gap insurance and i am upside down about $1500-2000.

The EM1 will deff have gap insurance, I recommend anyone who does not to consider getting it.

That really sucks man. Good luck with your next car. Gave you a bump on your FS thread for others to see it.
