Default have an '87 accord pgm - f1 light goes on intermittently

the car runs fine, has about 140K miles, is manual, but sometimes, for no reason, the "PGM chip F1" red light goes on and seems to stay on until the car is parked.

But the car runs great, the only other problem is sometimes the seat belt buzzer doesn't go off if you don't close the door and get it on within 30 seconds or 1 minute. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

pull your code and come back... sounds like EGR, though

look under the drivers seat when the car is running and light is on and count the blinks you may have to pop the little tap off the cover to see the window.

OK, when the PGM-F1 red light goes on at random, and stays on until the car is shut down ('87 5 spd, Coupe Accord), the red light under the seat blinks 12 times. Does that correlate to anything? Thanks!

The first thing I check on those is to see if the vacuum chamber in the control box is clogged.

Thanks all,
Is the fact that it is intermittent, and comes on randomly, but never shuts off until the engine is turned off consistent with the EGR diagnosis?

That's pretty much normal for that code.

OK, I'm a newbie, how do I check this? Where is the vacuum chamber in the control box, is that under the seat in the black plastic enclosure?

A helms manual for your model will give a good step by step procedure to diagnose the EGR system.

Don't they use the long/short flashes like newer ones? Code 12 on a newer car would be 1 long & 2 short.

Nope there wasn't any need to, there weren't very many codes like Vanilla Sky said.
