APEXi Power FC question
I just installed the Power FC w/FC Commander, I am getting a strange noise about every 2 minutes or so that sounds like you took a jug of water and turned it upside down (thunk). I can't tell exactly where it is coming from. It didn't make this noise w/the factory ECU in.
Also, when I am in ETC. mode the LCD reads B16. I purchased the Power FC from an authorized Power EXCEL dealer and was told that APEXi only makes 1 Power FC for Hondas. I also spoke w/APEXi and was told the same thing. Does anybody else get the same readings in the ETC. mode?
One last question, is the Power FC calibrated for 100 octane? If so, how do you change it to 93 octane?
Thanks for reading,
Jeremy

The sound you hear is backfire.
It's not harmful to the engine.
Try leaning out the idle.
For quick fix, lean out using the 'Basic Fuel Injection Correction' window.
Mine also reads B16 but there is a B18 FC available.(different basic map)
It seems that Apexi USA sells the B16 FC for all B-series Hondas.
Yes the FC is calibrated for 100 octane gas.
You can tune it to work better with 93 octane gas but there is no 'quick change' mode.

You might have to go as far as -15% @ 1000rpm to really reduce the backfiring.
With the B16 FC, it runs very rich low-mid and lean high.
Best thing to do is either get an accurate a/f meter(Greddy) or go to a dyno and tune with a wideband O2.

Ya might want to check your facts..
the Base b16 FC map is set for 90 RON... and I'm more than 99.9% sure that Apex didn't change the Base map for the US..
Just my 2 Yen

There Info is all bunk to
Oh well...
Austin,
Did you ever get a chance to run the FC on your car before the installation of the Toda's?
It seems that the backfiring problem is common with the FC(B16 or B18) on relatively stock motors.
I better install my Greddy A/F soon...

P.S.
Anyone looking for a PowerFC that has about 10 hours dyno tuning for TODA B cams, and the adapter harness to connect it to a 2000-2001 integra?
Once I am in the basic fuel injection correction menu, how much should I lower the PIM volt once I lean (say -15%) at 1000RPM? Should I adjust the PIM accordingly w/the fuel settings?
The knocking from my FC is only at idle. Sounds like hollow noise...I even put in a 1/2 tank of 101 octane last Saturday to hope to cure the problem.

Leave the sensor voltage and just adjust the fuel %.
Remember, this is only a temporary fix until you go to a dyno and tune.
Yes, the sound you hear is backfire.

I have experienced this problem, on two cars. Didn't seem to matter what I did with timing or fuel. If it IS backfiring, that would usually indicate it is running too lean. I have also experienced a similar noise when setting up the idle speed motor with my Motec.
Well, it's definitely running rich tho.
It was easy to tell once I removed my plugs.
Also, excessive amount of water was dripping from the exhaust.(and the smell)
I dramatically reduced the noise when I took out some fuel from the idle.
And it seems to happen less on a very cold day.
