Radiator fan inoperative
Ive changed every sensor that has to do with my coolant system, yet my fan still fails to turn on . . .is there any possible way the thermostat could be causing this? anything else i should try?
check relay. Put a jumper in between the plugs for the relay in the fuse box. There should be four diferent ones. Put the jumper in parallel pairs with two then try the other two. If the fan comes on It could be your relay.

thugluv- i'm not sure about what you mean by parallel pairs...i'm having the same problem with my rad. fan. it's not the motor and i'm thinking it might be the relay. lmk what you mean. thanks in advance.
i dunno man, but make sure you have enouph coolant, thats what was ******* me over, take ur cap off and start the car and keep fillnig ur radiator untill it stopos going down, it was causing my heat not to work, my thermostat not to open, and my fan not to turn on.

i've definetly got enough coolant...cuz the thermostat opens and i can feel the upper hose get hot from the coolant flowing through it. it's just the fan isn't turning on.

check ur connections and then pull the plug out of the top of you radiatro fan and run to wire streight to the battery . .. if it dosent tur on replace your fan motor, then if that dosent work try replacing the fan switch . . . . its on the thermostat housing

well i know it's not the fan motor...i'm not sure how to check the relays though. i'd rather check them to make sure they function before i go and buy a new engine coolant temperature switch and not have that solve the problem. also, is the fan switch you're talking about the same as the engine coolant temperature(ect) switch? thanks.
A quick fix is to hot wire the guy to a toggle swith in the car. Just flip it when you get to driving it. Turn off when your done. That's what I did for a week, till I had some time on the weekend. Anyway good luck.

This is the only good information in this thread.
But hes was just telling you how to jump the relay with the parallel pairs. I use a test light and check the connections that way to be sure the relay has constant power (For the motor) and a remote signal (Triggers the relay) and a good ground (For the coil on the relay to work) OTherwise my preferred way is to use an ohm meter. hit me up if you need clarification on anything!

depenidng on the relay being 1m 2m 1m-1b, or a 1t, there is diferant ways to check all of them, just because they click dosn't mean they work
you have to check contenuity between them with a the ohm function on the DVOM (digital volt ohm meter), check for contenutiy between the control termanals and the switch side, usually if you have a service manual it will be in the beginning of the EL (electrical section) on how to test relays and which kind there are and so on and so forth, you can run a serach on here for who has the ESM's hosted for you to download, it will help you out a lot with how to do basic functions any more questions feel free to ask here or in PM

Thats EXACTLY WHAT I SAID, you just said it a whole lot longer with no help.
Ill look for a pic of a relay to show you how to test one.....

There should be continunity between pins
85 & 86 (The coil)
30 & 87a (Normally closed)
With power to pin 85 and pin 86 grounded there should be continunity between pins
30 & 87 (Normally open)
wo0t thanks for showing how to test relay. yoshi, i thin kthe engine coolant temp. swithc is the same thing as the fan switch . . . .not sure though but hte fan switch is the only senesoron the thermostat housing.
oh one time i thought my radiator fan wasn't coming on and I was making a big fuss about it. But it turned out to be because I wasn't waiting long enough for it to turn on.

probably a stupid question but seeing as how i'd rather have this spelled out so i don't eff up my car...which plug are you referring to and how would i bridge the connection? i know how to hook the fan motor harness to a jumper wire and i think i'd be able to ghetto rig a rocker switch to fix the fan but i'd like clarification as to what you mean 808. thanks bro!

considering i was writing mine the same time u were i just took a while to get it posted cuz i was on a 56k connection at the time, don't be such a smartass, before u jump to ****** conclusions

I'm having the same problem, both hoses are HOT so my thermostat is working *at least i think it is* replaced the radiator switch, and when im at idle the needle will steadily increase and WILL overheat. fan simply isnt turning on. I'm real close to getting a new fan. I'm no good at electrical stuff but I'd like to test the relays and stuff before i get a new fan. i'm not even sure what to parallel or where to even look the fuse. I'm no good at electrical stuff.

i belive there are two fuses, if its a 92-95 civic, there should be one fuse box tucked up above your gas pedal and stuff, a black box, second one should be in your engine bay beside the battery, theres diagrams on the fuse box covers to tell whitch fuse does what, so you'll be abel to find your fan fuse easily, take it out and theres a metal peice inside of it, if its not broken your fuse shoudl be fine, if its broken, replce and test it. remember to look at both fuses.

Well if you want to be a dick you go ahead and help him dont let me hold you back, and I wasent being a smart ***. Youll know when im being a smart ***.
Hey guys, I switched the ect radiator switch, swapped relays under the hood for another one, and the fan still isnt coming on. I tried looking for the underdash fuse but i couldnt find it. can anybody help me out on this one? Also is there a way i can wire up the fan to the battery so i can see if the motor is broken or not? thx. I have alligator clips and was thinking of doing it that way. O yea i forgot to mention i have a 2000 civic .
