90 Accord Bad exhaust valve
I have a 90 accord with a bad exhaust valve. It is on the # 3 cylinder and, according to the leak down test is leaking down 90%. The strange thing is that it happened all of a sudden, one day the car ran fine then driving down the street it just lost a cylinder. Anyway just looking for input on how hard a head removal on this engine is. I have done it on a push rod engine but never one of these. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
removal of the engine is pretty straightforawrd and easy...as far as your leakdown, what were the compression numbers? also, do you know if the valve is bent or what? did your oil light come on or something? valves just don't bend for no reason...
I don't know what the exact numbers on the leak down were, and I thought it was pretty odd for the valve to just all of a sudden bend or stop sealing for what ever reason. Thanks for the response.
speedo is not a common problem, but it does happen...i highly doubt this is the cause of your problem however...did you over-rev the engine or anything at anytime? or float the valves ever? if so, this could have caused a bent valve...90% loss of the valve is quite a bit, though...make sure the valve head is not floating around in the combustion chamber...
if it is just a valve no need to rmove engine just remove cylinder head and do a valve job,,,
As for the speedo most likely you got a bad v.s.s (vehicle speed sensor) just the electrical part located in the tranny very common on those cars

didn't over rev the engine, but it was driven literally by an old lady before me so i am assuming that the engine was never really reved (carbon build up maybe) anyway, does anyone have suggestions, or experiences with pulling the head on this car. As i said I have changed heads on push rod enginges but never an ohc, is it an extremely dificult procedure?

second that, don't know why you'd remove the engine for a valve job?!?
