I'm asking more specifically the owners of stock, or lightly modified SOHC owners. Many of my friends have full time jobs, and own some very quick cars [STi, 350z, etc.], yet because I'm in school full time, I don't have the funds to do much besides suspension and cosmetic mods. They think I'm crazy for driving around in my 17 second '99 EX, but honestly I still have fun driving it. Does anyone else feel the same, or am I crazy?

 

i know what you mean, i loved my single cam, i ended up coming across my ls swap for free, and i would just about swap it back for a good single cam setup. Something about the single cam, just dont know what it is...

My story is exactly the same. I like driving my car but I am saving up to get an engine swap.

 

I've always enjoyed mine, even when I was NA...

I like it much better now that I'm turbo though. I still get the gas mileage of a stocker when I drive in vacuum and when I get on it I can roast the tires like no other...

SOHC for life! When I blow this one I'm going to build another SOHC and run 1bar daily. That should be fun!

 

I'd love to turbo mine, but unfortunately reliablility plays a big part in any of my modding decisions. I realize its all in the tune, but I can't risk it. Hopefully soon.

 

I didnt enjoy mine when I had it... The long geared trasmission on the HX made is the most boring thing to drive.

 

i love my sohc too...many b series guys will tell you to go the dohc route...just do what ever makes you happy.

 

I get bored with mine from time to time but I will always love my Single slammer. And when I finally finish my build, I know I'll never have second thoughts about it. The best part about having a SOHC, when you blow it, you can 6 to 7 for the price of a b18c5.

 

I like mine now that it's sc'd. Not as fast as a B18C5, but 1/3 the price.

 

It's a grocery getter, what do they expect? Not everyone is baller status to dump $$ for a 350z, STi, or Evo8. Geez.

 

all that matters is, You like your car, **** your So called friends, also boost it, and u will love it.

but now i got a ls swap and just love the dohc!!! the power feels great!!!
cant wait to swap a b16 head on it so i can feel the VTEC

i enjoy mine very much. but 17 seconds? thats hella slow, mines mid 15s with just an intake. it will soon be a k20 eg so watch out if u see me

 

i bet if u know how to drive your car u could be in the 16's also with a little bit of work u could be in the 15's

 

I totally enjoy my SOHC, just because I'm poor doesn't mean I can't have fun. who would be more pissed off, a guy in a civic gettin owned by a beamer, or the guy in the beamer gettin owned by the grocery getter? Boosted D's have more fun!

 

****, just because you run 17's doesn't mean it's not fun as hell to drive. My go-kart hatch is a blast to drive on the street and even more fun on the autocross track!

I'm sure my car will run nothing better than high 15's/ low 16's but who builds a d-series for the drag strip?

If you can, go turbo or try and find a cheap used jackson super, D-series fo life y0!

 

I've never run at the track, honestly. I just thought 17 seconds was the claimed/average Quarter Mile time of the d16y8 EX's.

I love my mini-me to death.... I'll be feeding her a turbo later this year.

 

I loved my sohc vtec motor when i had it. Use to surprise a lot of people at the track when I lived back in SD. It was even more fun on a 65 shot of nitrous and slicks......low 14's with full interior and sound system....ah great times

 

98 Civic DX with stock D16Y7, loving every minute of it. Gets like 35 mpg

how long did it last with the nitrous cuz im thinking about getting some?

 

Its how you drive your car. Hell my vx is hella slow at the 1/4 mile(16.8)no major mod just a header, catback with suspension mod. but it's a lot faster then some other car at autoX.
