Need HElp!!!!!! WHAT kind of head unit???
im lookin to buy a head unit next week, but i dont know which one to get.... im lookin to get speakers, two sony 12's, and an amp....i dont want to spend more than 350 on the head unit...thanks for the help
What exactly do you want in a head unit? Do you want superb sound quality or nice "effects"?
For sound quality, look at either Eclipse, Nakamichi, Alpine.
If you're not looking for the best in sound quality, but more into the visual eye candy I suggest Kenwood & Pioneer. I'm not saying that the sound is crap for the Kenwood or Pioneer, but rather "not up to par" with the units I mentioned earlier.
I learned, after buying my head unit, I would be more satisfied with eye candy than I would be with sound quality (because I would never use the unit to its full potential). My sound system goals would still be accomplished greatly if I had bought a Kenwood rather than the Alpine, but with some added visual pleasure.

I second the recommendation for this deck! Also, stay away from sony amps!..and while your at it...try a pair of Infinity components against the sony's.....
The sony amps are overated like crazy, heat up too fast but look good. Sony speakers I have no idea...but sony is just taking advantage of its consumer brand name and not putting out too much high quality like they used to IMHO.

i have and like my Alpine unit... it has very good sound quality and enough features for my liking.. other manufacturers i would look into are Clarion, Eclipse, Pioneer.. Kenwood is ok.. i didnt like my previos unit.. and i dont really like Sony..
I wouldn't recommend Sony, but if ya like them. I just ordered the new Pioner DEH-P740MP from http://www.discountcarstereo.com but I can't tell you if I like it or not cuz I haven't received it. They got it at that site for $285 which is pretty good.
Regarding subwoofers, I'd say go with JL. W3's are good.
Headunit, I'd say go with either something that has MP3 compatibility such as the JVC KD-SH99, or the new pioneer DEH-P7400MP. Since you're only willing to spend ~$350, you can forget Alpine or Rockford Fostgate's MP3 HU's. Alpine CDA-7878 costs ~$500, and so does the RF RFX9300 and RFX9400.
Kenwood's MP3 HU's are good, but personally I don't like them.
