Default Is a NOS kit a good idea or not?

Is a nitrous kit worth it or not, what kind of damage will it do to a stock motor, and how much is safe on a sohc zc, 50 shot? Thanks

worth it or not is a matter of opinion. most people would rather go turbo from what i've seen around the boards and with personal experience.

contrary to "popular" belief, nitrous oxide won't randomly blow up your motor. the reason there's so many horror stories is because there's a lot of jackasses on the streets that don't know what they're doing.

Example: one kid i knew from around town blew up his motor. he was spraying WHILE shifting gears.

...the ZEX wet nitrous kit is the easiest not to goof up with (to the best of my knowledge). keep in mind that there's other products aside from the nitrous kit that you might want to look into:

-purge kit
-bottle pressure gauge
-bottle heater
-remote bottle opener
-etc

...it's up to you in the end though. and a stock SOHC ZC should be able to handle a 50 shot (assuming the motor is in good condition). also keep in mind that nitrous oxide is a form of forced induction, and any form of forced induction will put additional stress on your motor. be smart about everything and you should be ok.

hope that helps.

Well, the weak point on a stock motor are the intake manifold welds.

What this guy said... Do a lot of reading before you spray, and don't be stupid with it, you'll be fine.

Best explained from what ive seen in someones sig, "Nitrous is like a hot girl with std’s… You know you want to hit it, but you’re afraid of the consequences "
So don't go too crazy with the jetting and you should be okay..

I wholeheartedly agree, nitrous is fun. Its easy to look on a couple of board or even type in google and search, anyone can run nitrous safely, it all depends on the engine, what size shot, what kind of shot and how well the fuel system works. Most people just blow their engines because lack of research(dont upgrade their fuel systems with a 50+ dry shot) or just run too high of a shot on stock internals.
Ive had nitrous for a year or so, and ive only ran 3 bottles so far, ive been poor and jobless. You pay a lot lower of a price than a turbo or sc, but you pay for it by not having constant engine boost, and taking it out and running it to a shop whenever you need it, kinda sucks when you run into a good race you know you could beat em with the 50 but no n20. Please dont call it NOS though.

oh, and I was running a 50 wet shot on a stock sohc zc with stock fuel system. I actualy see more turbo people blowing engines than nitrous, I have never heard of a person running n20 properly that blown their engine.

seems like nitrous isn't as popular as it used to be. Back in the day where there wasn't such thing as a turbo kit, and Carbs & nitrous were the way to go.

i was considering going with nitrous for a while but by the time you go through a few bottle fills you might as well of gone turbo. And i'd hate it also because i'd be thinking about whether it was worth it or not to open the bottle on the street.

Sidenote, there is a Kia Rio (i think) with a huge apc logo across the street at the stop light right now.

.8 lbs of nitrous last for 10 seconds at a 100 shot. so a good 60 consecutive seconds easy. i've never let the bottle get too empty,
