Default D15b7 to D16y7 swap soon...

Hey guys! Here's the scenario:

I gotta 92 LX sedan with the b7 crappy motor...headgasket went out on it so im getting a low mileage y7.

Question is...after reading up on some and searching, i found that i should use the b7 alternator, ecu, starter, intake manifold, and dizzy?

Would the b7 work with the y7 till i getta y8 head? (would all the bolts line up)

Would everthing else plug and play?

Use b7 mounts?

Use the y7 tranny or b7 tranny?

ANYthing i should be aware of?

EDIT: Which fluids would you guys use? ie Synthetic Oil? GM synchromesh in trans?

Yes you can use your b7 head
You are going to need to use your b7 engine harness
Yes use your b7 mounts
Use whichever tranny is in better condition they are both the same for the most part
Use regular nonsynthetic oil and GM syncromesh in the trans

Dude your replacing a shitty engine with another one... this is what you do... If your trying to do the mini me thingy... just wait before you do anything... Build the motor out side of the car, get everything pluged in right BEFORE you drop the motor... Just trust me its better like that...

i mean if u think about it, u build the motor out of the car, hook up the sensors and the wire harness.... all u really have to do is put the "bitch pin" in and hook up linkage, axles, plug wire harness into car... and test the ****** =D... even though thats like 3 hours of work for one person.... i did my first swap for a 96 ex and it only took 5 for everything said and done...

yeah i know...this would be my first swap for my OWN vehicle and trust me, im in NO kinda rush...

reason why i went with the y7 is the potential that is there...really good and nicely built motor with low demand...making it cheaper and more available...could handle boost really well and is excellent with a y8 head, which i'll probably do.

im picking it up for a reasonable price and with the left over $ probably getta y8 head and manifold right away too...just wanna clear things up first.

k now just gotta z6 intake manifold and im getting a p28 ecu too...Bauley said to use the b7 ecu...it'll run lean, which kinda sucks, but no CEL's...if i run the p28, it shouldn't run lean, but will getta CEL for VTEC...so which should i use?

Also with the z6 intake manifold, it'll bolt up to the y7 no prob right? And hook up to the b7 wiring harness? All hoses will line up and be good?

Thanks in advance and all the inputs soo far!

just use the b7's ecu cause the p28 will give you nothing but headaches with CEL's might even put it in limp mode...intake mani. will bolt up no problem...b7 harness will work you may have to switch a couple sensors from the b7 on your block but nothing that wont take more then 5 mins. i dont think there is anything else that you need to be aware of all hoses etc... will fit

So are you getting a really good deal on this y7?

Cuz y8's are pretty common and cheap in junkyards, I think it would be way better to just spend some extra time to find a y8 instead of doing a mini-me swap on the y7.

and for getting the engine all ready out of the car, waaaaay easier.

well 350 for a y7 with harness and 48k isn't that bad of a deal...and with the mini-me, it should yield more compression then the y8...even though it would be more simple to just swap the y8...

...kinda want to know every aspect of the motor too before i put it in, thus the rebuild.
