Swapping gears............Thoughts/Comments!
I have an allmotor B18b mated to a GSR tranny(I miss my old B16 tranny
). Anyway when I shift from first to second my rpms drop pretty far and I feel a lil lag, which sucks; however 3rd and 4th gear pull very strong. Well I used to have a B16 tranny and it pulled through the gears fast and I never felt a lag, so I am wondering if I should swap out my GSR 2nd gear for a B16 second gear and possibly third gear as well. I think it will help out a lot, and I have been playing with the gear calculator to see what changes I would have.
GSR tranny:
1st: 3.230
2nd: 1.900
3rd: 1.360
4th: 1.034
5th: .787
FD: 4.40
Shifting from gear to gear I land at:
1st to 2nd: 4706 rpm
2nd to 3rd: 5726 rpm
3rd to 4th: 6082 rpm
4th to 5th: 6089 rpm

Shifting from gear to gear I land at:

2nd to 3rd: 5541 rpm
3rd to 4th: 5674 rpm

* This is if I were shifting at 8k in each gear
Any thoughts and comments would be beneficial! I am trying to put myself into my optimium powerband. Thanx.

if you're referring to my calculations, i don't think they're perfect. something is flawed. for sure the B16 gears are shorter. if i had the money i'd put B16 2-4 gears into mine.
4.785 is less than half the price and almost as high.
of course, then again, that will make first gear shorter, which may or may not be good. of course, it will make second a lot shorter, which is a big blessing for not having to shift to first or lug second on slow corners.

With a higher FD you will still be landing in the same RPM range with each shift.
Your GSR tranny with B16 2nd and 3rd gear combo is the same thing as the 98+JDM ITR tranny minus the 4.7 final drive.

Thats why I thought of doing the gears swap! And you can buy the gears cheap, like $25- $30 a gear off someone or $60 a piece new from Honda!
I just want a better second gear, and I would disappointed if I wasted my money on a 4.7 FD and it didnt make that big of a difference!

When you buy new gears you need the counter and mainshaft gear. They go for $50-80 a peice.
I think the 4.7 FD makes a big overall difference, some say it does nothing at all.
