Default Quick yay or nay on 1994 F2

I've posted on a few moto forums, but didn't really get a solid answer. You guys aren't second or third choice by any means, but I felt like I've been posting too many threads on here lately. Anyway...

Just test rode this bike about two hours ago. Mechanically, it's in pretty good condition, as the guy put new sprokets, chain, cleaned the carbs, new jets and has done all the regular maintenance on it. No oil leaks, etc. The only things that bother me are:

1. Odometer has been changed out, because the last one broke (not that big of a deal, I guess), but it reads 7-8000 miles higher than original. He has the original cluster to show how many miles were on it when it broke.

2. The fairings are all scratched. In the picture, it's hard to tell, but it has few deep and light scratches (mostly on the left side) and one part is cracked (right where the chain tensioner sits). Seems like the bike was laid down before, as the Honda symbol is halfway gone.

He's asking around $3000. It has 19,000 miles and a clear title. Is this a fair deal? Should I pass on this? Thanks in advance.

On a side note, I (finally) took my moto license exam and passed (missed one )!
(and already signed up for MSF). I'm also going to take some classes (Utah Rider's Ed) this summer once I get my bike.

WAY over priced. For 3 grand you could get a 98+ if you shop well.

Mike,

What would you offer him? He said he already got offered $2500 and he turned it down. I really am having a hard time forking out $3000 for a bike that needs new fairings, the sideview mirrors being all scratched up (the covers), and possibly (?) faulty mileage. I am also looking at a yellow F4 (not my fav color) with 17k miles and they're asking $3400. Haven't checked it out yet, but maybe that's a better deal. Thanks for your input.

gen2moredoors - thanks for your input, also.

Thanks, *****

I'll keep shopping.

update: My friend might actually be selling me his 97 F3 with 10k miles for $2500 or so. It does have a scratched fairing, but replacement part is $150. Sounds like I found my bike!

i bought a 98 f3 with 12k miles for 2600, i mean it did hae its fair share of small problems. for the most part i'd say that sucker is way overpriced.

I'm interested to know what his logic is behind that.

depends on where you are.. The market is different in each state.
About 3 years ago when i bought my bike (91 cbr600f2) in CO, i couldnt find ANY cbr for less than $3000 (which is what i ended up paying). I sold it for $2500 last summer.
so depending on how scratched up, and if everything (engine, tires, etc) are in good condition it might not be too bad. Id definately shop around a bit more though.

I dunno where these people are finding a 2000+ bike for $4k.
