Motor out of car testing condition of it

I'm about to buy a motor but the motor is out of the car. Is there a way to do some compression test on it? Or any test for that matter to determine whether or not its messed up?

you can do a leak down and compression test, make sure you bring something like a jumper pack so it can spin the starter
