b16a w/LS tranny...
I would like too know how the LS tranny feels when joined with b16a?
response, feel, rpms in 5th at lets say 100kms an hour...
any info will be helpful

Slow
B16 is torqueless, LS' gearing is too tall. 5th gear RPM is about 3000 RPM at 100 Kph. I have an LS fifth gear on my JDM S1 tranny. Perfect transmission for B16A, but rare and expensive.

He is right, if you have a b16, I would stick to b16 transmission. Unless if you have a nice turbo, even then, I would still stick to a b16 transmission.

Don't listen to those who would tell you that the LS tranny is better for boost. It isn't. Shorter gearing = faster acceleration, period.

ive got a ls tranny on my b16. it pulls 3.5k rpm at 65 and 3k at 60. its alright since i do a lot of highway driving. it would probably be a lot more fun with a close ratio 1-4 and a ls 5th

First thing to think about is 89-91 LS trans is not too bad and the 92-up to 2001 LS trans is another animal, taller.
The other thing to think about is how do you plan to drive it?
I have a USDM type R trans and I don't like it.
For driving around below 60mph the type R trans is nice and gets there quick but on the expressway it sucks ***.
If you have the torque from a turbo or a B20, to pull a 92-up LS trans, it'll be pretty nice.
Don't let the hype on here kill you. A 92+ LS trans compared to a GSR trans is pretty much the same till 3rd gear which is over 65mph (2nd near redline) by then most races are over and you can upshift to keep the revs down on the expressway.

I do alot of highway driving but I like to hit the gears...but if it isnt that much of a diffrence I would prefer the ls since my 3rd and 4th on my y1 seem to be grinding a bit i donno
The 90-93 LS transmissions are the same, 94 up is taller.

My LS + a1 trans combo felt bland compared to my friends LS+gsr trans, and his was in a teg. I imagine the hydro LS tranny would be even worse, especially on a b16. I would spend the extra money, and get a b16 or gsr trans with an LS 5th if you are worried about highway driving.

my bro had a b16a in his DA with an ls tranny(a1) it sucked specially since the b16 is torqueless. One word of advice don' do it!

Yeah, I've seen that, it's wrong.
Now, here's a link for you.
One is a 92 LS trans
The other is a 94 LS trans.
Notice the gears are for the most part all the same.
Even the final drives (listed on the MT clutch housing page) are the same.

Like I said don't believe the hype on this site.
There's a ton of bad info being passed off as fact.

Are we talking about a pure race car on slicks or a street car on radials?
Yeah assuming 100% traction you are correct.
On a street car torque over powers normal tires and there is no acceleration.
Torque at the wheels is a function of leverage or gear ratio.
My own personal turbo car demolishes the tires and sits almost in the same spot and spins. My brother's car which is exactly the same in every way has taller "highway" gears and it leaves the line cleanly with minimal spin and much more acceleration.
Fact is if you have torque you don't need a bandaid of low gears.
I personally know people with 10 second turbo cars who have gone quicker with taller final drives, because they can hook up better, plus they load the turbo more which causes boost sooner and acceleration increases.
Run a turbo car on the dyno in first gear and then run it in fifth. Is will generate more power and torque in 5th.
Some turbo drag racers start out in 2nd. If low gears are so great why do they do that?
This guy said he cruises the highway a lot. You guys would have him run a drag racing trans so hates the car on the expressway. Why not comprimise and run a GSR trans?
To the guy who started this thread, go here:

Plug in your tire diameter and your max revs and look at how the transmission you run will treat you.
I cruise at 80mph, my revs are a little over 4500, that right around Vtec on my GSR engine. I can go 20mph in 5th gear, cleanly, without bucking or pinging. 5th gear should be something I can only use once up to at least 45mph.

Why not run an S1 with an LS fifth gear, get the best of both worlds?
Driving, traction, and shifting aside, the shorter geared transmission is faster... period. It's physics. Of course, you can run out of gearing if you're making some serious power. The only time I can see an LS tranny being similar is if you have enough torque and rpm to utilize it's long gears (ie don't have to shift into 4th at the end of the track).
Chances are this kid isn't going to be driving a 10 second honda either.
I mean, you're right about the shifting part. I myself have difficulties with the 1-2 shift, and my car is only a low 14 second car. But, practice makes perfect, and if you can nail down the shifting and launching, the shorter geared tranny will win every time.

ok listen This is jsut a summer car... for crusing i dont race or anything just like a thrill once and a while... and the ls 5th in a y1 tranny the rpms drop too much when you go in too fifth which damages the gears becuase the syncros have to work that much harder....
wut im saying is if it doesnt feel that much diffrent id prefer an las tranny...then when i get a 3rd and 4rd gear syncro sleeve n stuff ill rebuild the tranny... now wut ive seen is y1 final drive in an ls tranny gives you some pretty werid gears aswell
